I think the polls section is being spoilt by both the quality and the quality of polls. Too many are poorly thought out, with random unrelated bands or albums being pitted against each other, often on a one to one basis.
The volume of polls means that the interesting ones are being buried.
Personally, I'd like to see a distinction between frivolous polls and ones which have been carefully considered. How to do that though is another story!

I'll try again and see if I can repeat the gist.
That's why limiting to one poll every 24 hours would be good. Some members make 5 or more polls at the same time, burying the occasional "good" poll by a member who does them rarely but comes up with something interesting.
That wasn't so long this time. i must have waffled on a bit before.

I think we all know how painful taking a pole can be, one a day is more than enough.

You don't win anything for getting the right answer. That's frustrating, I wanna a prize for knowing stuff and clicking boxes and stuff. "so the nominations for best beat combo with saxomophone are (in reverse order) Generator, Graaf, Der, Van .... and the winner is ...King Crimson" - yay! What did I win, "Well on the conveyor belt tonight there is a grand piano; a reed and pipe organ; a glockenspiel; a bass guitar; a double speed guitar; two slightly distorted guitars; a mandolin! a Spanish guitar and introducing acoustic guitar, plus... tubular bells" Oh noes I wanted the alabaster plaster caster's coaster toaster, "So, we asked a 100 proggers 'who is better than DT' ... you said 'a banana', our survey said. ... XXXX ... sorry that's not one of the options, our top answer was 'an amoeba'" Okay, I'll take Canterbury for $800

I'm with you on that. The best thing to do is not participate in those because you're only encouraging them. My main gripe about polls and threads is the titleing that people use. If you're going to discuss a particular holiday, tack a year on it. Don't start a poll where many other versions are possible without sticking your name in it. I was guilty of doing polls on my random loads but decided a blog was more appropriate.

This is easily the most popular poll Gandalff has been involved in, except, strangely, he hasn't even appeared here

None poll should be tolerated, not even the "general polls". The whole "poll" section of the forum should be erased or, at least, moved to the North or the South, so we could make stupid jokes about the North poll and the South poll.
