Re Slick Rick: the fading train horn is from Kraftwerk's Trans-Europe Express (I think).
The gong at the end might be from a prog record, but more likely a generic sample CD or sound effects record. Gong hit samples are a dime a dozen.

Aha, looks like I might have managed to stump people!
Alright, here's a clue- you're looking at the wrong elements. The sample is the "are you ready" vocal that comes in behind the beat. And the artist's name begins with M.

As I said, it's not really relevant if you like hip-hop. It's just a game you can play to see who has a wide range of prog knowledge (so they know the sampled song in the first place) and who is good at detecting, recognising and recalling the sample.
Basically if you can't do it, you're not a *real* prog fan at all.

(That's the gauntlet thrown down) ;)
My point is I'm not going to listen to this awful (imo) song again.

Any takers?
Yeah I noticed that sample and replayed it many times but couldn't place who it was, I almost wanted to say David Bowie, but didn't.

Your not talkin about the Steely Dan sample(s) are you, I didn't even have to play your clip for that one. I love that De la album.
The whistle parts are Otis Redding.
By the way, it was great hearing that old Mahavishnu cut. That brought back memories, I forgot how funky they became, thats a great track except that one falsetto voice is not good.

Yep it was the Steely Dan sample I was looking for. There are Redding samples in there too but in this thread I will only be looking at samples from artists on PA.
Without looking it up, do you remember the name of the Steely Dan song?
