If anyone is interested there is a video of that episode here:

And by the way, Lisa does listen to jazz fusion, she mentions it in a number of episodes.

Re Martin: the real joke in that scene is that Martin is introduced as a flautist, but he never plays the flute, only recites Ian Anderson lyrics as poetry, it's a hilarious send-up.
The Moody Blues also make a great appearence in the Vegas episode.

Yeah, Homer listens to/likes classic rock a lot. Can you see the irony of that?

Homer's college roommates are probably massive Yes fans.

In the last decade any attempt at continuity has been thrown out the window and the show has been pretty lousy overall so the following notes are in relation to the golden years (the 90s), with one or two exceptions

notes:
- Smithers is more of a dance club, "It's Raining Men" fan
- Bart ~ "I was once a great drummer, but now I'm nothing, just like Phil Collins."
- Lisa would have to be a huge Jazz/Fusion fan
- Homer isn't all that picky and has at least sniffed around the edge of prog, though he's not aware of it
- I don't know that music figures into the Comic Book Guy's world, especially if there happens to be a Dr. Who marathon on
- Ned's more of a christian rock/country kinda guy other than the weird Beatles thing the writers splashed in there during this last, dark, decade
- Otto would be a prog metal fan without caring about the loose ties that bind his metal to prog
- both Sideshow Bob and Seymour Skinner are classical fans so their logic transition into rock would be through Symphonic Prog

A few likely answers:
- Martin Prince
- Professor Frink
- Benjamin, Doug, and Gary (Homer's nerd buddies from episode 1F02)
- Doctor Colossus (just a hunch)
- Hank Scorpio - if he is, in fact, as awesome as we all know he is

that elderly woman who plays the organ in church is a keyboard wizard!
check out her interpretation of “in-a-gadda-da-vida“ (episode: “bart sells his soul“) here:

progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false?

Definitely Comic Book Guy. Homer has a few classic mainstream prog albums tucked away somewhere, and Lisa sometimes dips a toe into jazz fusion, but that's probably about it (aside from Bart's flirtation with DT).

I suspect Smithers owns the complete works of Village People, Judy Garland and for more up to date sounds enjoys Rufus Wainwright.
'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

mmm... Milhouse seems to be enough geek to be a prog fan right...??? but he's so momy whomy that might be more in the Radiohead, Dredg or Porcupine Tree kind of music... right...???
Change the program inside... Stay in silence is a crime.

One of those elusive prog-loving women we've all been wondering if they existed???

I can see these two talking about being Zappa groupies back in the day.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Mona Simpson (Homer's mom) is canonically a Jimi Hendrix fan. I also imagine that her old friends Seth and Munchie could be big fans of Ozric Tentacles. Cool

I distinctly remember Homer being a fan of the wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner, the bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher and the competent drumming of Don Brewer.....

I started listening to Grand Funk because of that!!

Lisa IS a free jazz fan so prog is probably too mainstream for her. Comic Book guy must be a prog fan for sure (Symphonic or Prog Metal)

Which was the Bart/DT episode , does anyone know?

admit it, we're all this guy:

http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/598/192280-comic_book_guy_13018_large.jpg

"Genesis similtaniously created and destroyed progressive rock. If it doesn't have a synthesizer in it I won't listen. Metal doesn't belong in progressive music. No good music was great after 1989, although the 80s was the worst. Musical. Decade. Ever."

"oooh, I've wasted my life"
