Iron Maiden are heavy metal, not anywhere near prog nor ever will be. What next Abba the prog years?

Why do close minded people think heavy metal can't be progressive? Isn't metal just a subgenre of "rock" anyway? Why do they say "this is metal, not rock, so it shouldn't be on the site" etc?

Speaking of Iron Maiden, I really liked the new Flight 666 live album. Classics very well performed. Haven't watched the film yet, but I'm expecting it to be interesting.

This is only your opinion, which thankfully is not shared by everyone. And rest assured that, if we decide to do so, ABBA will be added - perhaps that will help keep the likes of you off the site. Back on topic, I believe the most progressive IM records are their last three studio releases, which feature some magnificent epic tracks. My personal favourite of the three is Brave New World - a five-star classic in my book.

Oh the day when a friend of mine came to our house with Brave New World in his hand... That's definitely one of my favourite Maiden albums too, and not just because it was my first love.

I'd say Brave New World, Powerslave, Seventh Son, Somewhere In Time, in that order.

Seventh Son.
Reminds me of a heavy Yes in the instrumental section. Sort of Relayerish.
Love it!
Oops, didn't read the [poll properly. I was talking about the song not the album.

I Love Maiden!!
Lots of people I know dont think they'r very Progressive, But I can hear it in thier music.
I picked Brave New World because thats where I hear it the most.

Not to derail the thread or anything but have anybody heard Mägo De Oz's cover version of Strange World? I really like it - it even ends with using the accoustic melody at the end of The Prophecy on the Seventh son of a seventh son album. Amazing and really proggy cover!

Somewhere in Time, my fave Maiden, obviously the other proggy one is 7th Son; Powerslave and Piece of Mind also have some prog tendencies... I think Somewhere in Time is the best one though

Because they have never heard Hogweed or Schizoid Man, presumably.
My vote goes for SSOASS. And I agree with Atavachron, the debut is indeed a very progressive album. Powerslave, SIT and AMOLAD are other proggy Maiden albums.

Seventh Son is their proggiest, followed by Somewhere in Time.
And I actually think every album they've made since the Dickinson reunion has been fairly proggy.
