Islands. The title track is epic.

Though Wake has a lot of memorable track, the title track and of course Pictures of A City... But mainly I'm discussing The Devil's Triangle. That song is haunting and awesome.

Still, I just love Boz' vocals, so Islands does it for me Thumbs%20Up

Both patchy but underrated albums IMO - Islands gets my vote for side 1 of the vinyl original, Formentera Lady/Sailors Tale.

"Islands" all the life. "In the wake" is just a good copy of the first KC album.

I like the strange melodies of "Islands", and its experimental touch. This musical obscurity is very charming.

In the Wake of Poseidon, the only track I don't really like is The Devil's Triangle.

Islands -- at least (but not only) for its originality as opposed to In the Wake of Poseidon.

Actually, I'm not that far from having the same view. Though, right now, I find ITCOTCK and ITWOP just about equally great!

I voted for ITWOP. It's better than most people, including Fripp, think. It does have the same blueprint as ITCOTCK but the music's still new and original.

It's interesting how different people think about Islands. Well, my vote goes to ITWOP.

All KC albums during the first period are patchy.  They range from the patchy but somewhat brilliant (ITWOP, Lizard, Islands, Starless) to the patchy works of raging genius (ITCOTCK, Larks, Red).

Soldato of the Pan Head Mafia. We'll make you an offer you can't listen to.

Boz was my favourite KC singer. A shame he didn't do more albums with them.

Great to see Islands winning this by the way, even though I voted for ItWoP. I have the impression that Islands is the more overlooked album, which is why it's good to see it has more votes.

Hi Phileas

I remember in the beginning 70's in my native France, ISLANDS  was considered a classic in par with ITCOTCK, superior to the 2 in between. Since then , i have learned to love LIZARD, but only starting in the 90's and would give it 5 stars now.

ISLANDS is such a great work and we didn't know yet that JOHN WETTON/BRUFORD  era would bring the best.Clap
Just listening to  USA now.  It blows the competition deep away. Buries all VDGG and others i know.
STill lamenting on FRipp  disbanding this version just before IAN MCDONALD was coming back. God only knows what we missed.Hug

I didn't even needed to think twice!  Island gets my vote.

Easily my favorite King Crimson album from the 70's for the same reasons people hate it.

Islands was hyped up to be bad.  At least by the people I'd talked to.  I bought it and was amazed at how good it actually was.  Wake of Poseidon is good too, but I feel Islands was a better achievement.

Anyway, these are two of the least liked King Crimson albums, however they are my personal favourites. If you have to choose between these two, which one would you choose?
Good taste dude.

Islands and In a wake are beside Red and LTIA my favorite KC albums.

Islands is sligtly better then In a wake for me.

Lineup: Bozz, Wallace, Collins, Fripp with Tippet is exciting
