Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm still working my through an un-published sci-fi novel by Charlie Stross, called Scratch Monkey, which is available to read for free (Creative Commons license) on his website.

Oh and he's English too and even created a race in AD&D!

The Dune books are a must. Some of Ray Bradbury’s stuff is great too, some very freaky ideas in his books.

I really think Frank Herbert is terribly overrated. The Dune series got especially terrible after he passed and his son tookover the writing.

The big three are were everyone should start (even though I feel Vonnegut is a stronger writer than these three) Asimov, Heinlein and Clarke. I feel of those three Heinlein is the strongest

Getting into it myself, so far Heinlein, Harry Harrison and Klifford Saimak(sp?) are my favorite. Saimak's Ring Around The Sun and All Flesh Is Grass are probably my favorites so far.

I've read many of Larry Niven's work, truly excelent. Michel Crichton's Jurrasic Park and The Lost World are both very good books as well.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
