Could It Be Deep Purple with Ritchie Blackmore?
Blackmore departed the group in 1972 after Machine Head. Coverdale replaced him, but its a big group. Thast 34 years since they last performed together, I think DP is a likely candidate.

- Deep Purple's original lineup would involve Rod Evans, who the band sued the hell out of in 1980 for using their name, so I wouldn't count on them
- GG's original drummer, Martin Smith, is dead So, they're both out. Also, Blackmore left DP after Stormbringer (1974) and The Battle Rages On (1993), not around '72. Edited by dagrush - August 03 2006 at 22:41 |

I have the feeling it's going to be something featuring Steve Winwood...

It won't be Traffic.
Two of Traffic's members are no longer with us... Unless you mean The Spencer Davis Group. Spencer Davis still performs, I saw him in the '80s with that All Stars Group he was a part of... could be them I guess, but I don't know the rest of the band. I still say Fleetwood Mac... from Wikipedia: A tour was cancelled and recording of a new studio album stopped in early 2004, when Green left the band and moved to Sweden. Shortly thereafter he joined The British Blues All Stars, but their tour in 2005 was also cancelled. A possible reason for these changes could be a planned reunion of the original Fleetwood Mac, as announced by Mick Fleetwood on March 14th, 2005. Edited by Geck0 - August 03 2006 at 23:20 |

Also, Jeremy Spencer performed on Mick Fleetwood's 2004 album "Something Big", so they're still friends. Spencer has released some solo albums and lives in India, so he still performs.
It's a strong case I think. We shall see. |

And if by 'original lineup' you're referring to the classic MkII line up, they were performing together from 1985 at Knebworth (I was there ![]() |

Purple have performed together in the classic lineup on and off since Rainbow went bang. Their first album together after reforming was Perfect Strangers ,I believe,in 1984. |

So at the moment the most likely to fit the identikit would be Fleetwood Mac...

The original Fleetwood Mac would not be such a problem coming from Peter Green (who has been touring for much of the new millenium), but from Dany Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer >>> both have gone bonkers on drugs or religion (or was that: and? This would then become a pleonasm

I saw the bogus "Deep Purple" in 1980 with Rod Evans in an old stadium here in my city. They played awful and were booed, and later there was a riot. Evans was sued later by the real Deep Purple management, and he lost the royaties of the albums he recorded with them.
Blackmore left Deep Purple again or was fired with a lot of bad feelings in late 1993, during a tour, and was replaced by Joe Satriani in a few dates.I doubt that Deep Purple is going to have him playing guitar again. Blackmore is a very good guitarist but it seems that iis hard to work with him.

Jeremy Spencer has been performing in India for the last decade or so and has released albums as well. He also performed on Mick Fleetwood's 2004 album, so he is still friendly with them. Danny Kirwan doesn't play anymore and still lives in a home as far as I know. However, Danny Kirwan was not an original member of Fleetwood Mac (he was drafted in as a third guitarist, because Peter Green wasn't too happy with Spencer's output), so it's not a big problem that he wouldn't be in the lineup. I actually feel it'd be a huge disappointment if it was Fleetwood Mac, as much as I love their original output. I am not sure that Peter Green is upto scratch... if it is indeed them, it'll be very interesting to see how they perform. Having seen Peter Green's Spinter Group in 2002/03, I have witnessed for myself, what his playing is like. Roger Watson was playing a lot of the solos and technical parts, but Peter Green still played a great slide. His harmonica playing is better than ever however. |

You nailed it, man. By original, I mean the lineup right after the original lineup minus the original member who I mentioned in my post. EXACTLY what I was going for there. Also, Satriani replaced Blackmore on the tour at first.
On Winwood, Blind Faith maybe? Edited by dagrush - August 04 2006 at 17:12 |

As much as I would love to be proved wrong, it just won't be Genesis, or any other of those bands mentioned...
'Over 30 years' means, sometime before 1977.
Glastonbury just doesn't do 'prog' (usually). It's not likely to have someone like Genesis or Fleetwood Mac or even Deep Purple headlining. The 'kids' would think Eavis had gone mad!
Nope, it's much more likely to be someone more 'indie' or punk. I can't think of any examples that exactly fit the bill, but I bet it's someone boring and predictable.
