yeah that is a great album as well, it has the same atmosphere as some of the early Univers Zero albums, just not RIO at all, just minimal folk music, some very strong songs on that album and it builds throughout very well

^ compare the lyrics ... they're much different from the typical goth topics. Also, the folky instrumentation/keyboards don't play medieval themes, like in goth bands, but spacey/experimental stuff.
But for these two albums I don't mind if people call them Goth ... I just mind when people call The Gathering a Goth Metal band and liken them to Lacuna Coil or Evanescence.

agree with your thoughts
however, Lacuna Coil are largely influenced by the Gathering, as for Evanescence........ no need to discuss

Opeth and the Gathering aren't goth-metal IMO. If you have to listen to this genre pick up After forever or Epica.

I am looking for music that is lachrymal, depressing yet beautiful. I am not looking for Evanescence; I have that one album and its decent.
I read the most recent thread on Stream of Passion and Ayreon. Regarding SoP, would I be greeted with melancholy goth songs with dulcet vocals ala Marcela Bovio or pop-goth similar to Evanescence.
Is Materia-Novembre suppose to be good. Is it goth?
Suggestions? |
I would really just like to point out that, Goth, as in gothic rock, and Gothic metal are two seperate styles without much incommon...
