I´m just curious to know how Kansas fans tick, so here are three questions.

1 What are your top three bands? (Besides Kansas) Porcupine Tree, Peter Hammill, Allan Holdsworth just to name a few

2 Are you a Yes fan?  I ask this because I have noticed that not many Yes fans like Kansas and       vice versa (I could be proved wrong here)
Yes I am, Yes was my introduction to prog.
3 What are your thoughts on Proto Kaw? Do you think they are more progressive than Kansas?
Yes i think they are, their sound has much more elements from other musical styles. Kansas is a progressive band but on some moments (take In the spirit of things for an example) they sound like an aor band but I always like them anyway. The first Proto Kaw album is the most diverse. The second one is one of the best albums ever released, the third is the most kansas alike (I think). I like PK and Kansas both.
I want to hear from Kansas fanatics like myself!

1. Together with Kansas in the top of list, if one may only mention three, are: Kaipa, Yes, and ELP.

2. As you can tell from the previous answer, I am indeed.

3. Proto-Kaw are ok, but much too boring compares with Kansas. Kerry was of course the base of Kansas, yet what really made Kansas great was the combination of Kerrys compositions, Steves vocals and Steinhardts violin.
I would call Kansas both more progressive, and more symphonic, than Proto-Kaw.

1 What are your top three bands? Marillion, Rush, Neal Morse

2 Are you a Yes fan? Not a die hard fan, but I have a lot of their discs

3 What are your thoughts on Proto Kaw? I haven't listened to Before Came After in such a long time; however, I did bring it in to the office today. It's OK, but nothing too exciting for me.

1.  I suppose Rush, Yes, and Dream Theater.
2.  See Q1.  I am a Yes fan that enjoys Kansas.
3.  I have not yet heard anything by Proto-Kaw.

4 (for Teaflax).  The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Billy Joel.

1. Flower Kings, Rush, Chain

2.  Love Yes

3.  Love Proto-Kaw.  They are probably is bit proggier than Kansas.  The Kerry Livgren of 1977 and of 2006 is quite a bit different and the maturity has served him well.  Now he is the main man and doesn't have to worry about inner band politics.   Gives a different angle to the whole aspect of the two bands.

Whereas a lot of the seventies dinosaurs have stopped writing meaningful music long ago, to have Before Became After and Wait of Glory (not to mention Somewhere to Elsewhere) are true gifts to all Kansas fans.  Long live KL!

3 What are your thoughts on Proto Kaw? Do you think they are more progressive than Kansas?   I WOULDN'T SAY THAT ONE WAS MORE PROGESSIVE THAN THE OTHER BUT KANSAS IS BETTER.

To Catholic flame :

Are you Israeli ? Aviv Gefen ?

He's not bad at all and one of Israel's best musicians but when compared to the big world he still lacks in many aspects. Just few non-prog great artists that come to my mind at the moment are : David Bowie, Steely dan, Jeferson airplane, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Tori Amos, P.J. Harvey, Talking heads, The smiths, The cure, Joy division and I could go on like that for hours, all better (IMO) than Aviv Gefen by far.

If you're not Israeli this is even more strange choice (maybe need to see a doctor ?).

Please no hard feelings. I am only curious where did it come from.

Hi omri,

No, I'm not Israeli; I'm from the USA. I really enjoy Aviv Gefen but I do have to admit that I came to him through the backdoor of Blackfield. There is nothing wrong with the bands that you mentioned above but I know most of those. Gefen is brand new to me and the fact that he doesn't sing all of his songs is English (I assume he is singing in Hebrew) adds to his appeal.

For right now he is one of my favorites. In a few months, after I've seen that doctor, maybe things will be different.

Gentle Giant, Genesis (1970-78), tie: Camel / Fish / Fish-era Marillion

Not really, though Drama and CTTE are very good

3 What are your thoughts on Proto Kaw? Do you think they are more progressive than Kansas?
Not familiar enough with them, though based on the few songs I've heard, they do explore areas not covered by Kansas (though that doesn't necessarily equal more enjoyable music)
