Right. Because Yes have loads of narrative lyrics based on old Kurosawa movies. And they have keyboard fanfares and power chords too. |

Yes are the preeminent prog band .Because of the hugely talented individuals that made up the band they are nearly impossible to emulate . Starcastle tried but are second rate.

I think that Starcastle wins the Yes sound-alike award hands down. I
put their first on an unmarked tape for a buddy years ago, when I
talked to him a few days later he was all excited, and said he thought
he had all the Yes albums, and couldnt figure out how he had missed one
![]() The only other band that comes to mind who really gets that sound would be Yezda Urfa. I only have their second, but other than the occasional GG style moment, they really have a Yes-like sound, instrumentally and vocally. Someone mentioned Ad Infinitum. Nah, I think they sound more Neo-prog than Yes symphonic. Oh, I haven't heard it for years, but I remember the Garden Shed album by England had lots of Yes-isms. Oh, and a few years back I saw a band called ABWH live. They were great and sounded a lot like Yes. Even did a few Yes covers, it was cool. Edited by Nipsey88 - June 03 2006 at 18:35 |

Well, I think The Flower Kings (which I like) often emulate Yes.

Try Magenta. I dislike them much as I dislike Yes. The vocals are similar and some musical parts are just copy-paste of Yes.

There was a group called Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe that sounded a little bit like Yes.

Druid and Flame Dream are solid YES copycats

Lift, Cherry Five and first Druid are my favorite Yes-influenced bands. Other Yes inspired bands are Hungarian You And I, first Finch album, early Machiavel, USA bands Cathedral (Stained Glass Stories) and Realm (The Path), Swiss group Dragonfly, Dutch bands Ywis and Cliffhanger and Argentine MIA (Cornonstipicum). |

ATOLL - one of the most interesting bands in France.
"Musiciens - Magiciens" [1974] - a lot of music connection with Yes and other bands (for example Genesis). "L'Araignée-Mal "Tertio" [1977] - also an interesting album. And then --> "Rock Puzzle" [1979] - This is Asia!!!! Why? Check it yourselves! There is an excellent guitar player in Asia - Christian Beya - French Steve Howe. |

Without a doubt, The Flower Kings can, and do, on occasion, sound very, very close to Yes. Although they have their own sound, they can emulate Yes convincingly, even if they don't consciously intend to. And they are probably the only band who have musicians comparable to Yes when it comes to the technical aspect.
I was a big Yes fan in the '70s, and still enjoy them now, when in the mood. But I do like The Flower Kings more, to be honest.

Druid sounds a heck of a lot like Yes, only not nearly as good of course. I do enjoy their first release "Toward The Sun." The singer isn't nearly as good as Jon Anderson and can get annoying with his almost constant falsetto. I haven't listened too their second release "Fluid Druid" yet, but will be since I just recently bought it. I haven't heard Starcastle yet, but am very curious. It's hard to find their releases on CD.
