Rush, by far. My favorite band, and certainly one that has transcended time and musical styles of all kinds and eras. Their 70's output from their first 7 albums really shows the diversity of metal/rock/prog that they all drew from, and their 80's albums really show them off as a creative workforce.
With 18 studio recordings, numerous live offerings, and over 30 years of touring and playing, they've gained a huge following, where they've played to crowds over 30,000! Their reputations and careers as individual musicians and as a band make them one of the best Art Rock, even just Rock, bands out there. And they are still recording! Even now, they're in the studio recording and writing for their new album due out early next year, Geddy projects. It will be interesting to see what direction they go to next!
-Marc.

Van der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant and King Crimson first of all, but this is a really strong list.

I would not say that these are all ART Rock. Barclay James harvest are more Symphonic than art. I would have looked ,ore for Kansas, or Supertramp. But since you picked the list I had to go with the Heep.
the rest are all great bands i would just have them listed some where else.
