I'd make an "Art Rock" band called "Fan de Cruyff Impersonator", mainly doing badly sung football chants, mainly about Johan Cruyff. One of the many avenues would also be a Jordi Cruyff spin-off, being very anti-Jordi and very dark and gothic, but not having any "Art Rock" tendencies whatsoever. The main band (above), would produce pastiche Rush sing-a-longs, with appalling backing tracks and cheesy neo-prog keyboards and a stylophone (circuited back-to-front and occasionally not working). Guitar solos would be Libertines/Babyshambles-esque, with added distortion.
All-in-all, it'd be an amazing band, with an eclectique mix of non-prog blandness.
But seriously...
It'd be a cross between:
VdGG Peter Hammill Gnidrolog Taal KC Caravan/Soft Machine/Hatfield and the North/Robert Wyatt/Gong Neil Young Bob Dylan Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac The Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule/Derek Trucks Band/Béla Fleck and the Flecktones
So basically, an unlistenable cacophonos mess!

As a songwriter my influences are Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Wobbler and a bit Yes and a bit Genesis...
However my band would sound like...
A mixture of the bands I mentioned above!

Well, first of all I'd have to get better to realize my musical ideas,
but it'd sound like a mix of these bands probably:
-Porcupine Tree (The catchiness, the vocals, the relaxedness, the riffiness lol)
-Rush (The classic feel and light use of synth sounds and chord-heavy guitar)
-Opeth (The soft vocals, acoustic bits)
-Dream Theater (The epic quality to some of the tracks)
-Pain of Salvation (The vocals and wierd structures)
-Ayreon (The variety)
-Camel (The laid-back nature and beautiful harmonies)
-ELP (The classic sound and craziness)
-Nobuo Uematsu (The great orchestral themes, etc.)
-Pink Floyd (Spaciness, relaxedness, catchiness, sweeping guitar)
-Caravan (catchiness)
-Transatlantic (classic prog sound, long songs)
-Genesis (The poetic nature and great harmonies)
Others:
Spock's Beard, Angra, Yes, King Crimson, OSI, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Gentles Giant
It would be some sort of Art Rock/Symphonic Prog/Space Rock/Psychadelic
amalgamation with some Prog Metal influences. So, something like
this....
Vocals = Camel/Pink Floyd/Porcupine Tree/Opeth (the lighter side) style
Guitar/Bass = All of the things I listed
Drums = Dream Theater/Rush/Porcupine Tree/Camel/ELP/Pink Floyd/Transatlantic/Spock's Beard
I dunno.

I think of Krautrock --> psychodelic, electronic atmosphere. A lot of music experiments. Sound of my band? I don't care. I have no money, I have no time. Small studio. Or gloomy bunker somewhere in Germany. I don't care.
Ingredients: 20% - Can 20% - Ash Ra Tempel 20% - Amon Duul II 10% - Popol Vuh 10% - Faust 10% - Agitation Free 10% - others...

Mine would be a mix of Dream Theater style riffery, arranged in a Mr. Bungle manner of weirdness (and songwritingwise) and shift back and forth between psychedelica, prog metal, and avant garde

If I was competent enough to play all the instruments myself, I suppose I would play Bass like Chris Squire, Guitar like Steven Wilson, Drums like Phil Collins, Keyboards like Tony Banks, and I would sing like Geddy Lee (though Gabriel is my favourite, but I don't want to put too many Genesis members in it, which is why I didn't include Hackett!!)

That band would be just me with several devices, not musical instruments. Me and a computer. The sound... as weird and diverse as possible, as long as I feel good about it. Probably between very crude procesed folk music and abstraction.

My main influences musically are: Steve Hackett, Rush, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Marillion, metal like Dream Theater, Opeth, and Metallica, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. Essentially it would be an album of many different styles crammed together into a tight feel and it would be uber cool.

Yes + Kansas + Camel + Jethro Tull + The Beatles + Pink Floyd + Supertramp + ELP = My Band
So i'd need Guitarists (me), vocalists (not me), Flute, Bass, Viloin, Drums, Keyboards

It would sound like garbage. A drunken wombat could beat me in a drumb battle, my keyboard skills are limited to the synth lines from YYZ, and my bass skills are average at best. As far as guitar, well, I'd be better of with a keytar (see keyboard skills).

SOAD drumming with single string guitar riffs, horrible attempts at soloing and singing that will break glass (because will be smashing their heads into things because its too painful)
Thats my musical skill

If I had to choose bands.... I'd say genesis and pink floyd. Crossing David Gilmours sound with Steve Hacketts would be so awesome my that head would explode.
I would rather cross musicians to get the sound I wanted though, for example I would cross Bill Brufod and Ginger baker to get my ideal drummer, Geddy Lee and Mike Rutherford to get my ideal bassist, Tony Banks and Rick Wakeman for keyboards, etc, etc...
