Same here - 50/50 Headphones/speakers. Generally prefer speakers cos it is hard to find comfortable affordable headphones and I am not too keen on ipod earbuds. Earbuds for listening in bed![](smileys/smiley2.gif)

Quality speakers are my prime choice. I use headphones when I have to, but it's usually uncomfortable to have them on for a long time. Plus, if I'm at home, I can't go anywhere if I have the headphones plugged into my computer. With speakers, I can move about the viscinity freely and still be able to enjoy the music, among other things.
I have pretty big headphones, that produce not a fantastic sound, but good enough for when I need to use them. I can't stand the ear phones that you have to shove into your ear; you really have to ram that thing deep in there to get the full sound, and it's hard to keep it there. Otherwise you have a very poor, often treble heavy sound that I for one would rather not have. The plus is that they're easier to bring around with you. I don't have an mp3 player, so it really wouldn't benefit me at all to have them though.

i've always been a speaker kind of guy, but i'm moving into an apartment next year so will probably have to rely more on headphones to not piss off my neighbors...

Always speakers, if you have ever been in a band, you will understand.

All too rarely headphones (my Sennheisers are probably thinking I am having an affair with my Bowers & Wilkins )
I refuse the cordless garbages (sh*tty sound quality) and the normal kind are a bit limiting in your freedom and the cord is never long enough, then you must either stop the music when you get another brew and start is again after you have settled back in the seat>>> a lot of hassles I do not need![](smileys/smiley2.gif)
but I do agreet the headphones are the best way to listen to music

Speakers 100%. Headphones give me ear-ache. The only problem with speakers is that it can be annoying for other people around who don't want to listen to prog/metal.

You can't beat headphones for hearing the intricate parts of songs but they are just cumbersome and I only wear them when I'm out for a walk ![](smileys/smiley4.gif) But in the car is where I can crank it and just become immersed in the waves of music. It always amuses me that people in the cars next to me are listening to Barry Manilow or Coolio or some kind of crap and I'm in my little Cougar rocking out to "the gates of delirium" or "in the cage." Different strokes for different folks, you know!

Excellent headphones -such as the big Stax- enables to reach a level of transparency impossible to achieve with speakers.
On another hand, nothing replaces the physical sensations speakers provide.

If I had a set of good quality speakers, it might be different.
But for now, I vastly prefer headphones.

I listen to almost all of my music on speakers. But I love the detail you get from headphones.

I largely prefer speakers, but I usually use headphones while walking to my workplace. Because of the noise from the traffic I hardly enjoy the details that this way of listening offers to me, and that's frustrating. ![](smileys/smiley19.gif)
