The painted ones are excelent, but there are good covers with a very good photography work, also a good typography are excelent and necesary for the cover.

I beg you pardon if this is your personal opinon but this statement is a bit contradictional to me. A photographer can be just as original as a painter, so i fail to see why an orignal photo can't be a double piece of art. Personally i know what i like whether it's a painting or a photo and as many of you have said before the most important thing is that the art reflects the content |

A cover should be completely different to the original or there's no point... Oh... I see... Not that sort of cover. |

Painted of course, especially prog. If I could paint, I would paint my own albums! (If I was an artist).
But also beautiful album covers like 50 Cent's "The Massacre" is wonderful! (what?) |

Every post is my personal opinion. But I believe that a painting is able to reflect more the complexity of a Progressive Rock album, It's very hard to describe 5 or six songs with a photo, maybe the atmosphere of an album, and a painting gives more freedom to the artists to mix scenarios.

Photo or Painting... either... as long as it is made by Thom Yorgson (is that how it's spelled?)!
