you should look at various prog albums and such, you could mabye get an idea from them.
Also another good method is, to look at various words, and change them around ever so slightly, for example:
My band is an Instrumental Progressive Rock/Fusion band, and we couldnt think of a name. So one day My guitar player was reading the book Siddharta, and it tells about how Buddha always used to go to a place called Jetavana Grove to meditate.
Well, my friend misread it as Jetavana Groove, and Oila! Band Name. It fit our band perfectly. So try doing those kinda things. They work pretty good.

You could just shorten that to "Pretentious"... and I'm sure everyone who would actually listen to you will understand exactly...![](smileys/smiley36.gif)

I actually got one, but I will use it so I donot inted to have to fight for the rights in a future.
A cool way of getting a name is taking a sentence, title or expresion from something you like, for example, isildurs bane, I'm sure they all like lord of the ringss
or like the rolling stones, they took it from, like a rolling stone, by bob dylan

You are joking aren't you? The Rolling Stones will freely admit they got it from a Muddy Waters' song Rollin' Stone first recorded by Muddy in 1950,(date according to my Muddy Waters compilation Rollin' Stone) - as probably did Mr Zimmerman. And besides the Dylan Like A Rolling Stone recording post dates the formation of the Stones.

How about a Zodiac sign? Maybe in French, not in English!!
Or maybe the name of a Greek / Arabic / Hebrew letter? (Alpha, Gamma, Aleph, Lambda, for instance...)
I think a one word name could be effective, and if it comes from a non-Anglophile culture or an ancient theme, it can sund quite exotic and/or mystical.
Just a suggestion.

Your surely right, I had heard this before, but then later on a guy on the radio said what I initially put , excuse me for my mistake.

Bloody hell, what a response!![](smileys/smiley32.gif)
Lots to make make think and loads that made me laugh. I'll show them to the guys in the band and see what reaction I'll get.
I didn't know about the Rolling Stone story Rain. You learn something new every day ![](smileys/smiley1.gif)

The other day on the radio they had someone from the Allman Bros. who has done a solo album named 'Deja Voo Doo'... Which at first sounded very cool.. and then the more I thought about it.. it sounds like a bathroom chore..
So just remember... think on it for awhile... cause what might sound cool at first, may later end up being a real joke.... ![](smileys/smiley36.gif)

This will probably solve all your bandname problems. I like 'Tugid Hog' or 'The wookkie method'

I'm curently helping a young band get started, it's not a prog band but we do a version of 21st Century Schizoid Man. It's more of an Industrial band and we're doing covers from Ministry, Tool, Laibach and others. It's called Evil Squirel. Unfortunately I wil have to leave as I have other commitments, however they are excellent young musicians and had no problem learning Schizoid Man which isn't the easiest of pieces.
