Good thing this isn't the 70's. I was a youngster in the 70's and had no idea who ELP were. I was but 13 in 79 and was listening to bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Styx. ELP wasn't even a blip on the radar. But definately times were different...........It took me until the 90's to work up the courage of "coming out".

when issues like that was more acceptable.

I'm so hetero it hurts and an ELP fan but once back in the dark distant (and thank God for that!) 80's I had "Love Beach" lying next to the stereo one day and when my girlfriend at the time when over to put on some music  she sees  the album (and this was the vinyl version so the cover photo was much more imposing than the puny later cd version),picks it up,stares at it for a while and says: "Is this a gay band?". And no matter how many times I said they weren't,she wouldn't believe me. "Are you seriously telling me these guys are straight?!". For all I know she might still be firmly convinced ELP were the English answer to the Village People.

I'm very excepting of people's lifestyles.  I think if my son was gracious enough to put up with me being a groupie most his life, I can handle him being gay.  And since we aren't attracted to the same type of men, we get along really great together....  Man, can we work a room....

I know what you mean as far as black sheep is concerned.That is for sure.

I like ELP...but the Scorpions?....and as far as show tunes....other than the Buffy musical I don't gravitate towards that either so we're on aggreeance there

Its so true.. but his new band is young and I'm sure they need the experience and he's not going to draw big crowds without Greg and Carl... so I just hope he has a good time with it and gets some quality time writing new stuff with his new guitarist... Dave Kilminster.  That would make this insult seem less harsh.

Actually I think thats why Greg hasn't been really into doing anything the last few years.  He went out to play with Ringo because he knew that was actually a hearty testament to his talent.. and not a put down in anyway.  But that last ELP tour where they had to backup Jethro Tull.. and at one point Deep Purple... I think that really sickened him on the whole thing.  Some of the videos I have from that last tour... he looked so depressed.
