^Your love in no way beats the classics
I voted Ian Anderson, but it was hard to choose.

Pointless poll - it's impossible to tell who wrote what in many cases. Banks wrote with Hackett, Rutherford et al, Bardens always with Latimer. Kelly with Rothery in most cases, with Fish doing the lyrics. Which bits of CTTE did Wakeman write? His solo albums vary from superb to dire. Even Anderson collaborated with the other members of JT to polish off his songs and finalise the solos and arrangements. The only one who might qualify for consideration is Oldfield, but his output varies from moderate to utterly astonishing (often in the course of one album).
I'll abstain.

Zappa - the only other serious contenders on that list are Fripp and Kerry Minnear, though really Christian Vander, Fred Frith and Daniel Denis should have been included as well.

if we are talking SINGLE composer then it has to be Zappa.
Most of the greatest prog songs/albums were group efforts so it is hard to pick one of them.

Well put, although Fred as we know is still not even included in
the archives, at least he's represented in Henry Cow. Chris
Hodgkinson was also a stellar composer there. In terms of pure
composition, some of the others here write great complex
songs, as pointed out, but who else had his compositions
performed by Pierre Boulez's Ensemble Intercontemporain?
And the most renowned Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the
Ensemble Modern has performed and recorded the
impeccable "The Adventures of Greggary Peccary", and
collaborated with him intimately...Frank, of course.

I voted for Arjen Lucassen, not the most technical composers, but one of the more creative ones. I don't think Petrucci should be on the list, or anyone from Dream Theater considering they do not have a "centered" composers. Daniel Gildenlow should be on this list.

Kerry Minear,
Kerry did most of the writing for Gentle Giant, and I heard Gary Green
say in person how much fun he had playing music written by Kerry
Gentle Giant's music was always top notch and a ton of fun to listen
to, whether it was really complex and progressive or not.
Consistently great writing from one of the most consistant classic prog
bands
