let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I don't remember any of those bands being considered New Wave in the UK at the time. RYM has Madness tagged as New Wave but not Selecter or The Specials.

In spite of all its various versions and re-releases with different track listings, The Golden Age of Wireless is a definitive album of its time. My version of choice is the pre-"Blinded Me With Science" American release on the Harvest label.

I also greatly enjoy New Gold Dream and the Flock of Seagulls debut.

I almost dropped Thomas Dolby from the poll in favour of XTC, but I'm glad I didn't now. Smile

how come Adam Ant's excellent album Friend or Foe isn't available as an option?

I ran out of options, having already filled all 25 available slots in the poll. Smile

I guess you could say that Cambus is adamant that Adam Ant should be here regardless of the poll option limitations.

As for me, no vote for 1982, but I'm hopeful for 1983.

XTC would have walked it for me with English Settlement. I've gone for ABC this time as The Gift was a slight step down for Weller's boys.

4 stars 1982: ABC - The Lexicon of Love - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_njQ-vtLtdr8lCUJvijX4QrS6Rf48QgtwA

How to make a cool and trendy pop video in 1982 that will still be remembered over forty years later. It's as simple as ABC. Smile

4 stars 1982: Berlin - Pleasure Victim - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrpyDacBCh7DuovhR_PgCoQkVUn3vVpdW

A favourite song from Berlin's best-selling album. Tell Me Why Terri Nunn and Berlin from L.A. are nowhere near as popular or well-known as Debbie Harry and Blondie in NYC? After all, Deborah Harry doesn't take my breath away in quite the same way as Terri Nunn did. Smile

4 stars 1982: China Crisis - Difficult Shapes and Passive Rhythms - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lQJUi-xOWRentDOa08wmyg2ZGMEHQFPXs

Crisis? What Crisis? The first album from China Crisis sometimes deals with difficult subjects and political hot potatoes, such as African and White, where there are no prizes for guessing it's all about the apartheid regime in South Africa, but who knows what my favourite song Christian is all about? Ermm

4 stars 1982: Depeche Mode - A Broken Frame - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hN9tv_XGP0

A mixed reaction from critics to Depeche Mode's second album, with Melody Maker describing it as "ambitious and bold, marking the end of a beautiful dream", but conversely, Smash Hits dismisses the album as "tinkly-bonk wimsy", which leaves me speechless, so I'll just Leave in Silence. Confused
