It's a very difficult poll, this one. I listen to Yes a lot more than Floyd. I've heard everything in the Yes canon apart from the box sets, while there are some glaring omissions in my Floyd collection - strange as it my sound, I've never heard 'Ummagumma' 'AHM' or 'Animals'. However, I feel I have to vote for Floyd, as IMO they have created the best music of all time, eclipsing anything by Gabriel era Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, the Moodies, etc. I'd be very tempted to vote for Floyd on the basis of 'The Final Cut' alone.
With best wishes
Martinfloydman.

JAJAJAJAJA. Now this is trully hillarious ¡¡¡
Man ¡¡. You are from England and have not heard Atom nor Animals and still are able to say they are better than any Crimson, Genesis and Yes?...
Have you heard every classic album by these bands you mentioned ?. I hope you´re not judging Floyd against Yes for liking "Learning to fly".
The final cut as better than any Crimson and Genesis??¡¡¡. ....Man ¡¡. That album was an inch close to being a cassete-book (these books in tape with only narrative voice) about the second WW.¡¡¡.
In my opinion, YES and Floyd are very different bands. Floyd has more diversity, more feeling and better textures. Probably, even better songwriting. YES has way better instrumentation.
Both bands have tons of very entertaining and enjoyable songs. I couldn´t name one as better.

Though decision... I still need more time to think about one. They're both different, one is psychedelic/space rock and the other symphonic prog. They're both excellent bands and respectfull players, although I find Steve Howe more technical than David Gilmour

Pink Floyd easily beat Yes as they are far more emaganetive than Yes and can match them on technical ability. This poll should be between Pink Floyd and Genesis, the only band that could get near them.
P.S. why do people call PF psychodelic/space rock. When Syd Barret (hope i spelled his name right) left they started to change from a psychodellic band and only ever wrote three space rock songs, Astronomi Domoni, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun and Intersteller Overdrive.

People say that Floyd have more feeling in their music, I think that's a load of crap.
Floyd's lyrics, are great. Rojer Waters really opens himself up, and his genuinely angry, but stylish lyrics are some of the best ever written. He sings with passion, and David Gilmours guitaring can make grown men cry. Everything is subtle, and it's about sounding right.
Jon Anderson's lyrics, in terms of having a meaning, are awful. But Yes take took their instrumentation, songwriting, and melodies, to the edge. 1971 - 78' they were making music that they felt strongly about, surely just as much as Floyd did. They have plenty of feeling in their music.
I love both bands, but Yes music is more upbeat, and has more energy. Pink Floyd is fantastic, and have released some of the best music ever recorded, but i simply find more things to enjoy in Yes music.

Pink Floyd is nowhere near Yes in terms of musicianship and creativity, so Yes.
