Not that interesting a year once you get past the releases of the top bands (named several times on the thread already) . I think the gap between the big Six etc and the rest was massive at the time. Prog expanded very quickly though and got more broader and interesting over the next few years IMO.

Well, richardh, I won't say I agree with you on that (see my list), and I'm not familiar with your taste but David_D wrote: "If anybody isn't acquianted with Osibisa but is into African Jazz-Rock, I can surely recommend to give them a listen, and see the beautiful cover art by Roger Dean."

Not to be obvious but the highest rated 55 lp's listed here at PA for 1971 sums it all up...........

I haven't see that list, but if you include RYM's rating in your consideration, it might not be that obvious. So, I would prefer to look at the top 160 list, I've made - at least to begin with. Something else, dr wu23, I think the whole question is difficult to answer on some objective terms, as it's pretty subjective from the very beginning - so in short, nothing's obvious here, my friend, at least the way I see it.

Yes! That said, I have not listened to many of the albums people have listed here, so still lot's of 1971 prog to discover (though I'm not sure everyone is sticking to prog).
