An obvious choice, although Non-Prog, is Paul McCartney. I've heard some really good songs by him that you think is an entire rock band playing - but is just him on guitar, bass, drums and vocals, or, depending on the track, 3 out of those 4. The guy was a decent enough all-around musician.

Yeah, he's a natural musician.

I can tell you about really overall artist - Richard Wileman - Karda Estra. This gentleman writes, composes, arranges, produces his music; plays classical, electric and bass guitars, keyboards and percussions. He runs his own concern called Karda Estra, where he is chairman, accounts department, PR etc etc etc - everything. And he even sells his CDs. Also he replies all emails himself and does it pretty quickly. That is what I call OVERALL Artist. I had a pleasure to order his CD "Alternate History" by Karda Estra from Richard directly and received it in Ukraine within one week time - impressively quick. His music reminds me Steve Hackett solo symphonic projects, but he's got his own style, and his music is very interesting to say the least. Recommended!

Has anyone heard those 1970s solo albums by Anthony Phillips (originally Genesis guitarist)? On those, Phillips is purporting to be a Mike Oldfield type of composer, tinkering around with some keyboard effects and transfering the entire result to vinyl.
I personally didn't enjoy these at all. Sounded like a person toying with a Casio keyboard, with a drum machine ticking away in the background. Doesn't at all remind me of the person who did the sharp guitar-work on Genesis Trespass.

I haven't heard them but was looking forward to it, and so now forewarned to not expect too much. Sometimes that's the best way to approach new music. So you may be doing me a favor here. ![](smileys/smiley17.gif)
