A fitting song for today, bearing in mind I've been longing for A Day Without Rain for what seems like a whole month now. Smile

I'm a big fan of Enya too - I personally think her best work is to be found on her first three albums... and I love her darker tracks especially. Possibly my favourite track is 'Cursum Perficio' from the sublime 'Watermark' album.

For Paul's benefit, I consider Enya to be to New Age, as Julee Cruise is to Dream Pop - i.e the ultimate queens of their respective genres.

Can't say I've ever disliked any song I've heard by Enya, so maybe i should investigate further. After having secretly liked her music for years I bought Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya sometime in the late 1990's. So I know the songs on there + her three first albums in full. Here's a personal favorite.

I consider Enya to be New Age too, although I'm going to make an exception for Enya and Clannad by including them in my Prog Folk Britannia blog, even though they're both Irish. Smile

Another seasonal delight with an introduction by Enya Heart

Konnichiwa! Enya in Japan, featuring Rob Dickens (although I don't know who the dickens he is in all honesty). Embarrassed

Claire Hammill did a great album called Voices. I wonder if Enya ever heard this album?!

I remember back in the 90's that HMV stores used to file Enya under 'World Music'.

Willkommen! Here's a German documentary on Clannad featuring a very young Enya, which helpfully comes with subtitles (in German). Geek

Eww, Orinoco Flow! I hate this song so much! Everything from the ever present cheesy pizzicato keyboard patch, to the mind numbing major key melody that goes nowhere to the super annoying vocal deliery just drives me crazy. Sorry, guys! :(

If you are listening to Clannad you should really consider the solo work of Moya (Maire) Brennan:

Always thought it strange that Moya Brennan's single Against The Wind wasn't a massive hit and vice versa for Orinicco Flow (although I like both about the same).
