I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

How about Demetrio Stratos (Area)? or Mike Patton?

I'll go with Peter Hammill as for the given vocalists.

Jon Anderson - and he can still reach the high notes.
I feel sorry for Trevor Horn, no votes and I can still remember him going red in the face trying to reach the high notes at Hammersmith Odeon on the Drama tour.

Proposing Trevor Horn was of course some kind of joke.

Francesco di Giacomo - I love Banco, but actually haven't studied to find the name of vocallist. My fault, although I think Aldo from Le Orme would sufficiently represent the great genre of italian prog.

Akerfeldt did a great performance on Ayreon's "Human Equation" but has not yet earned to be one of my favorites.

Mike Patton - I used to didn't like Faith No More due to I'm Easy when I was young, but now my attitude is going to change.

This polls follows the line of some other threads titled themselves "The best of" and giving the opportunity to choose between someone's favourites. Despite the title it doesn't pretend to be the most impartial poll of choosing really "the best vocalist".

yet you still have time!

Mikael Akerfeldt

Steven Wilson

James Labrie (of 1992-1995)

Russell allen

Ray Alder (from Fates Warning - a really great singer!)

Jon Anderson

all of them are my fav. vocalists

I voted for James Labrie, because i haven't heard any singer who can compare to him when he was at his best (on images and words, live at the marquee, live in tokyo and especially Awake!!)

It's too bad he had food poisoning and his vocal cords were injured  until then he was the greatest, IMO

Why do Dagmar krause (Henry Cow) and Deborah Perry (Thinking Plague) never seem to get mentioned in these vocalist threads, anyway? I don't know, maybe nobody thinks they are any good...

Out of this list, Greg Lake wins hands down. His voice is the most beautiful of them all, even though you may not like what he is singing (and I do). However, I also like Peter Gabriel, Richard Sinclair (who reminds me of Lake), David Gilmour, Ian Anderson (who's probably the best lyricist in prog) and also Steve Walsh, though his vocal style is more American.

My all-time favourite singer, though, is the great Glenn Hughes. Do yourself a favour and listen to the records he made with Tony Iommi. Sheer bliss!

Greg Lake, although Jon Anderson's voice has aged better.

I've choosen the "other" option, since 2 of the bests vocalists around nowadays aren't included on this list : Steve Hogarth (Marillion) and Neal Morse (Spock's Beard, Neal Morse)
