I check it out on youtube, buy on amazon. There's a good local second hand CD shop I sometimes find cool stuff in.

At first, it used to be mainly a 2nd hand music store before there were CDs. Then I morphed into using Wayside Music with mail order purchases (before the internet). And I mail ordered my Zappa stuff from Barfco-Swill. Anyone remember that?
Nowadays, I order mainly through Amazon, though I've rediscovered Wayside Music as an online thing now. I get all my Hackett stuff strAight from the HackettSongs website. I've ordered a couple Big Big Train albums straight from their own website. It seems like I may have gotten my Anglagard albums that way too, but I could have a faulty memory there. In any event, I like going through artist-owned distribution outlets whenever possible. |

Approved! Play them to your friends and trade them with other music fan. Making money out of it is out of the question, of course. Took a few pictures at Crimson gigs over the years (sorry Bob, part of the thrill), the in-house staff clearly had strict directives about it and to see them on 'hunting' mode was quite hilarious. Haven't been caught yet but it came close a couple of times. ![]() |

Mainly first hand store and Amazon... I guess in a somewhat even proportion. I wouldn't know which one to vote for.

Online stores are my major source.
Luckily I have an independent record store still kicking in town that eats up the rest of my purchases.

Mostly Spotify these days, although I still buy a lot of vinyl from second-hand record stores when I can find them. Unfortunately hipster trolls have 'discovered' vinyl so many used record stores have started to seriously inflate their prices.
I still pick up the occasional CD off Amazon market, mostly obscure stuff that isn't available on Spotify.

You're taking me back to days of illicit items shoved inelegantly into hidden pockets, tucked into body cavities, and disguised in packs of cigarettes. It was the Rock 'n Roll Squeeze, to be celebrated by sharing whatever it was you'd snuck in with everyone else who'd made it that far. A lost art. I can remember struggling in the dark between songs to flip the metal cassette, hoping the band wouldn't start-up before I hit 'rec'. A quick check of sound levels and a prayer that the loud headbanger next to me doesn't keep screaming during the quiet passages, and away we went. |

Likewise, in order of descending frequency: Amazon, Bandcamp, CD Baby, eBay, second-hand stores (usually classical music), other online music stores (but not iTunes!), band's website, live concerts.

Chiefly these two: Kinesis: http://www.kinesiscd.com/Doug Larson Imports: http://www.douglarsonimports.com/ And on a more irregular basis: Bandcamp CDBaby The bands themselves Ebay (particularly seller get_importcds) Amazon (only when I get a gift card or when I'm shopping for wifey-poo I add a CD for myself) And on rare occasions when a band only sells via a single record company or distributor.

For the last couple of years I've bought most of my albums at Record Fairs in the area I live and Record Shops mostly while traveling - about 70% used (but always in mint condition) and 30% used = 100% vinyl. Added to that I buy about 15-20 albums yearly through Amazon/Ebay and another dozen or so on Facebook&similar-forums for selling and buying records.
I also pay for a local version of Spotify for streaming stuff I want to check out and make playlists. + I guess I spend about 150-200 € buying mp3's if I'm impatient or can't find the music anywhere else. I ripped most of my CD's years ago and don't buy or play them anymore.

the first four options are valid, but specialised web vendors (such as Syn-Phonic) or directly from the band/artiste himself are prime sources as well
