I know a lot of South American bands, including some very obscure ones, but they all seem to have at least a few scattered reviews under their belt.
A band like Invisible fx deserves far more attention than what they get imo.......but yeah, I'm diverting the topic which isn't my intention.

I could relax the criteria to bands which fly under the radar. The whole premise is there is a whole world of prog rock to discover besides the bands that get discussed over and over.

No, but they're the bee's knees as well. I love love love UFO Planante
![]() ![]() No the Invisible I'm referring to is the Argentinean band spearheaded by vocalist and guitarist extraordinaire Luis Alberto Spinetta.

Hey Tim - don't be alarmed by me hiding your post. I deliberately used a link seeing as it's a full album upload, and we have a thing against full albums embedded on PA (copyrights issues). They're ok for evaluation purposes, but we rather prefer if one links to the album over the general board
![]() It is however a great album! Edited by Guldbamsen - March 18 2015 at 10:51 |

Yea to get back to topic. I don't know many South American bands. I know there's a wealth of music to find down there, so I'm going to happily watch this thread and see what piques my interest! :)

Not at all helpful, but there is a list of all the unreviewed albums: www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp ... it's a shame that asp query cannot be made into something more useful.

Hermeto Pascoal is a BRILLIANT multi-instrumentalist virtuoso from Brazil who excels at every instrument he touches. He's an excellent flutist, pianist, guitarist, tuba player, percussionist, scat singer and whistler. Really, the man is a GENIUS and I hate the fact that he's only had 5 reviews on this site, mostly for his lesser work, Slaves Mass. His album Só Não Toca Quem Não Quer is an incredible showcase of this guy's creativity and sheer mastery of playing.
Pig Soul is a RIO group from Brazil which has yet to be reviewed here in PA, and that surprises me. Listen to this track: Arrigo Barnabé (also RIO) might have a couple of reviews here, but his best work, Tubarões Voadores (literally Flying Sharks), hasn't been reviewed on PA yet. The album features quirky dodecaphonic RIO tracks full of cheesy 80's synths and beautiful bossa-nova/MPB tinged pop-ish tunes backed by an orchestra, and the lead soprano wraps it up perfectly: Baleia is an indie-pop/proggy post-rock group you all should check out if you're into that kind of stuff. I don't remember if they're on PA but they might be and I'm too tired to check if it's here. |
