Just ordered Blind Dogs on CD cos I miss playing the vinyl so much. CS, Blind Dogs and BBF make up a trilogy of incredible Caravan albums. ' Who Am I' and ' John Waynes single handed liberation of Paris'- awesome stuff.

Pat (and anyone sharing similar tastes), you need to hear Supersister's Present From Nancy. I haven't given it a spin in a while and I've just fallen in love with it again.

I have it - I'll need to dig that out.

That's a wonderful record, as is its follow-up. I was so lucky as to find a boxset of both of them for just €10 (courtesy of Milan's one and only BTF store). When I get back home later in the day I'll give Present for Nancy a spin while I go about my usual business.

How is it, when I only live 12 miles from Canterbury, I can never find material from H&TN anywhere?
I hope you both enjoyed it....

I gave up on actual music stores long ago. Welcome to the Canterbury thread!

Thank heavens that some good music can still be found in Italian music stores (of the brick-and-mortar variety, of course!). I'd better get used to not finding much else but compilations when I move to the USA ...
BTW, welcome to our new Canterbury fan ! No Canterbury-related purchases from me this week, I'm afraid..

Ooh! Whereabouts can I find some nice ones? I'm visiting Italy this summer. (Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples and Livorno)

I'll tell you about the ones I know in Rome and Florence, because I don't know the other cities that well (though I've been there, of course). Mainstream music stores don't stock very rare stuff, as you would expect, but still you can find a much larger selection of good music (prog or otherwise) than I have ever seen in US mainstream stores, like FYE or Best Buy (compilation heaven !).

That should be good. I'm staying in Rome for quite a few days, so I'll have time to check it out in detail.
As for North American music stores... I consider myself incredibly lucky if I find so much as a Gentle Giant album.

Nicely done!
Lots of people find it a disappointment compared to their more 'classic' albums, but I've always had a soft spot for it. I have the vinyl framed on my wall.

I Love all things Caravan , i have had Dog on a old badly recorded tape for many a year, i now finally have all the Caravan albums i want on vinyl , Girl grows Plump will always be my fav i think along with Canterbury Tales , Tales is such a good pressing even though it's a best off i find it makes a damn fine album in its own right .

Still haven't obtained any more Caravan, bah. Although I must admit they're probably among my least favorite Canterbury bands, the only good thing is that means they're still awesome.

Well said! Pure Canterburian ecstasy.... Worth every cent (or penny) of its price! If you are interested, you can read my review of it, written a few months ago. At the moment I'm listening to For Girls... That album never fails to put a smile on my face (even in spite of Richard Sinclair's absence), and it's the ideal soundtrack to a hot, sticky day like today. Need something light-hearted to make me feel better!

Sorry you need something to make you feel better. Once again, I am getting distracted by the truly awful sound quality of my copy of The Flying Teapot. Here's some Canterbury, besides the aforementioned Caravan records, that I still want to pursue: Gilgamesh (s/t and Another Fine Tune You've Gotten Me Into) Later Soft Machine, maybe Floating World Live and then Bundles or Softs. Some other "foreign" Canterbury like The Muffins or Cos. Thoughts?

Okay, James officially got me really interesting in Soft Machine, it being the first Canterbury band I had heard. And now, I shall go forth and seek out their albums
