^^^ God is an Astronaut? It has a floating or spacey feeling to them which is I think their most noticeable characteristic of their sound. There are already 3 reviews of them here in the archives so you can stop by and read them when you have the time.
And while reading them you can listen to this samples taken from their website: Tempus Horizon Fragile Remembrance Day A Moment of Stillness Those songs are pretty representative of their sound and all of them are really great so tell me what you think of them when you get to listen to this samples. |

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Good stuff. I really enjoy it. i kinda feel like I'm listening to mogwai, but with out the negative qualities that take away from my enjoying mogwai.
And that artwork is brilliant.

Yes. They're really something. They'll be releasing a new album later this year in April.
I didn't get what you said about them being like Mogwai, but without the negative qualities. Can you explain that? |

Oh. Well I enjoy mogwai, and their sound. But at times I just can't get into it. Its too "mainstream" i guess, or too, i don't know... just not right. (especially on Mr.Beast).
btu with God is... you get a similar sound with the guitars and heavy but spacey feeling, but i don't ahve those same "ugh, that sucked" moments

From what I heard, they have too much of the Mogwai/EITS sound. Imitators irritate me because when I listen to it I keeping thinking about how much it sounds like a certain song by the "parent" band.
I know what you mean: I Chose Horses has an awesome name, but it sucks, and even Young Team has those sucky moments (R U Still In 2 It!?).

If you don't like imitators then be careful when walking in here. This genre is chuck full of them. It's a sad thing really, but there are still bands doing new things. Just like World's End Girlfriend, the band I recently reviewed. (shameless self promotion) Edited by chamberry - February 10 2007 at 19:30 |

Yup, for every innovative and refreshing group there are at least 10 bland imitators. World's End Girlfriend is definitely worth checking out though! (nice review, btw). |

Yeah, that's part of the problem with post-rock.
In reference to what you said about RIO a little while ago, I remember when I first came to this site, I thought you had super weird taste in music. I think, actually, after the new 65daysofstatic and possibly some more Mogwai and EITS I'm going to pack up and mosey on over to RIO. I'm starting to get really interested in the avant-garde. Many thanks to Kayo Dot and Henry Cow for that.
By the way, what is that skull image in your sig (it used to be your avatar) from?

It's from Super Furry Animal's - Rings Around the World. Nothing spectacular though, but I like the album, their name and, of course, the cover.
I only have a weird taste thanks to my fellow Avant-friends at the RIO thread. It's good to explore different genres and RIO and Avant-prog are very well worth it. I still enjoy both genres a lot, but I don't have the same free time as before to dedicate it to RIO/Avant-prog since I'm in 2 totally different teams compared to RIO/avant-prog. Although as you can see by my bands at my sig AI still listen to a healthy dose of avant-prog bands and still keep discovering more. But don't dismiss this genre so easily. There are still many great bands you still haven't discovered. Be sure to come here from time to time and read the post-rock reviews for some good recommendations. Nice, and most importantly, fairly original music. As I said in the other thread though, I think I'll need a second spin before making any judgements. |

Indeed. If this is truly a post-rock band then their heading in a right direction. For those who are wondering what the hell we're talking about please listen to this single song from them at their website and tell us what you think of them: http://www.myspace.com/liserstille |

I listened to their samples. They sound pretty aggressive when they get to their climaxes. Nice stuff. |

Lis Er Stille are very good; the agression is powerful, and they have some nice touches. I think they fall under post-rock.
You're right, chamberry, that is a good name :) Edited by Ghandi 2 - February 10 2007 at 20:35 |

^^^ Are you sure you listened to Lis Er Stille and not Jakob? When I red you saying "the aggression is powerful" I thought you were talking about jakob.

No, I thought that song was pretty aggressive. Those were fairly distorted guitars. Not as much as Jakob, but it was still there.

Hi Chamberry! How was Domnisoara Pogany? (That's if you had the time to listen to the sample.)

I am sorry, but I did not follow closely the thread and hope to not repeat what was said already, but just to mention two recent band findings I had:
- Sparrows Swarm and Sing
- Gragor Samsa
Has anyone mentioned them? I am sure you all know them so what do you think of those two?
I think they appeared in this list of top 50 of 2006:
Here are their Myspaces:
Gregor Samsa - http://www.myspace.com/GregorSamsaMyspace
Sparrows Swarm and Sing - http://www.myspace.com/swarmandsing
