IMO they're very heavy, or at least very "abrasive". Harsh sound. Brilliant stuff, showing the metal edge of early math rock. |

Well I guess it's heavy, in the sense that it's dense, not "heavy metal" heavy.

Hey guys.
My lamp sometimes sends curious night insects to insect heaven. It burns them. The smell is awful when that happens. Also, literally hearing the poor things frying is pretty traumatic. |

Agreed, there's something very unique about them and their heaviness, and it puts them in between different genres/sounds (metal, grunge, alternative) without making them part of either of those. |

Also, when you see NME posting a list of "great contemporary guitarist", you should know that really reads "guys who are in current major bands and happen to play the guitar in that band".

^ this was the link: http://www.nme.com/photos/the-greatest-guitarists-alive-today/183727/1/1
I think Johnny Greenwood is a great musician, and I like the guitarist from Blur a lot, but still, "greatest guitarists"? That can mean a lot of things. |

God, a bunch of frickin' hipsters and indie kids. Gag me with a spoon. And no, Jack White does not deserve it. He is one of the most overrated guitarists to ever walk the planet.

Seems more like an "influential" list rather than a best list...which is what most lists are, sadly.

Hardly any of their bands have been around long enough to be an influence on anything.
