The first record that I ever bought with my own money; prior to British Steel any records that I owned I had received as Christmas or Birthday presents from my parents.

Nice My first album was some crappy pop compliation i think. But the first "real" album was Black Sabbath's debut.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

The new recordings? I have them - the DVD; the CD; any kind of format it's been released on, I have them. Top notch! Absolutely top notch! In fact, I'm heavily influenced by Barenboim's performance of op.110 in my own performance.

What I have isn't that new, must be over 10 years old. It had Moonlight and Pathetique and a couple others that now escape my memory.

cities crash in the mighty wave;
the final man is very small,
plunging in for his final bathe

My knowledge is precarious (I'm writing without researching right now), but Barenboim fully recorded the Beethoven sonatas (and other things, of course) at least two times: as a teenager, and more recently, in 2005-6.

I'll bet my father has these new recordings (he listens to classical almost exclusively) - next time he visits I'll get him to bring them down.
