It could be a lot worse. Like Dutch. Now that's a fantasy language if there ever was one!

the word "fantasy" implies some kind of pleasure....... I am sure my dutch friends will forgive me, but it's a VERY difficult language!

Ik weet wat u - it' bedoelt; belachelijk s, is het niet?
[edit]
And Babelfish.com's no bloody help - the above is supposed to say "I know what you mean, it's ridiculous, is it not"
When you translate the above back into English, it comes out as:
"I weet what you - it' means; ridiculously s, it is not?"

My idea for a translation was something like "I know you - it's bed-wetting; unfortunate, isn't it?"

Now be fair Jared. Do you seriously expect the 55 year old daughter of a former prime minister, with only several years education at an expensive girls school, a degree from University College London and several decades of work experience in the British media to even begin to understand that referring to a black tennis player as 'the golliwog' could in some way be construed as offensive? It was just an innocent remark taken out of context or possibly a harmless piece of friendly banter. Is it really so different to calling somebody from East London a Cockney?
Let's bring back the good old days before PC when an evening's entertainment consisted of wholesome fare like the Black and White Minstrels, Love Thy Neighbour and The Comedians with Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning!
And if Tory Girl really believes there was nothing wrong with what she sadi, maybe she should try selling golliwogs on Brixton Market for a couple of weeks.

Fun and games with my broadband today. Phoned Virgin yesterday and a very helpful young lady told me I could upgrade to a 10Mb line for £10 less than we're paying now per month. Bargain of the year (so I thought) but nothing could be that simple! I got called out for work in the early hours of this morning and discovered I had no broadband. Called Virgin and after much messing about, I discovered that you can't have a 10Mb broadband with the set-top box that we have. Sadly the helpful young lady never mentioned this. So it's back to Virgin and get the line reset back to what it was (1Mb). Then I have to phone the technical support again (good job it's free) and he tells me I have to physically connect the PC to the set-top box to get my old connection back. I tell him I can't do this as the PC is upstairs and the box is downstairs. He tells me to take the PC downstairs. I swear at him then discover it's working anyway. The only good thing about all this is that I now appear to have a 4Mb connection. So apparently they're sending me the cable modem I need to get up to 10MB, but why didn't they tell me that in the first place?

Another day of the school being closed........ I was spitting feathers until I needed to make a trip to the shed, 10 feet from the back door and I fell over twice! Our 5 inches of unmelted snow is now 5 inches of solid ice! I now forgive the school.............. however feel inclined to send them in next week during half term to make up for it! Anyone see Mick Jagger at the Bafta's last night? R x

Don't worry Rachel - we're all in for torrential rain later; that is, unless it hits the cold front further sounth than they expect, in which case we're in for blizzard conditions.
Ain't winter fun?

We too are with Virgin & know the pain - however, if you want to reduce the pain, call them & threaten to go elsewhere; we did that last year & had our monthly payments reduced by 50% on their 'customer retention' scheme... worth a try

The Monday Quiz...
Can you imagine working for a company that has 635 employees and has the following employee statistics:
- 29 have been accused of spouse abuse
- 7 have been arrested for fraud
- 9 have been accused of writing bad cheques
- 17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
- 3 have done time for assault
- 71 cannot get a credit card
- 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
- 8 have been arrested for shop-lifting
- 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
- 84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year
Which organisation is this?
