Searching through the archives, I figured I'd try something new. RIO/Avant isn't a genre I'm very familiar with (apart from Zappa), so I looked up this album on Spotify. So far it's pretty good.

The last track, Force, is amazing!

With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince.
With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with.

It's a good album from them, Sam! Very punchy and focused, if a little streamlined, but pretty consistently good the whole way with no filler and over and done in under 38 minutes!

Oh man, that Argos album is lovely, gets better each and every time, and it's another shorter album with not too many filler spots ...and for a singer that often emulates the manner of Peter Hammill and VdGG, I sure prefer the Argos singer!

I only remember it sounded quite New Wave-ish Tongue

Yes, but fortunately he's rarely aggresive and doesn't sing nearly as much. It's quite varied instrumentally too.

^ Michael I'm not a big fan of Hawkwind at all but Levitation is the best album I've heard from them Thumbs Up
I need to revisit it again.

This is what I call spacerock.

Hope you dug that Hammer one, mate

And THANK YOU VERY MUCH for reminding me of the new Marillion one! An order in the state next to mine (It's coming from New South Wales, I live in Victoria in Australia) left on Monday morning, and I'm STILL waiting for it! I could have driven there and picked it up personally by now! Sigh...I really wanted it for the drive into work this afternoon, but it wasn't to be! Hopefully tomorrow (Friday), otherwise it's a long wait until Monday again!

Kingsnake, Sagi, I'm not suprised it's your favourite Hawkwind disc! Like I said above, it's really pretty focused with strong songwriting, and it's probably the closest they came to a full-blown `prog' album?

When I talk spacerock (or progressive spacerock), I mention Levitation, Force Majeure by Tangerine Dream and Planets / Time to Turn by Eloy.

I know, spacerock is more than that, but to me, that's they way I want my spacerock. Proggy, lots of nice synths, and non-fuzzy guitarsolo's.

Some consider `Levitation' a metal album as well, Sam, which I can kind of see too.

You are spot on about that Argos one, the piano and keyboard work alone is so warm! Honestly, I think I enjoy that album more fully than IQ's `Road of Bones'

Nine Cats and Radioactive Toy are amongst Wilson's best work.
