Me neither, though I've never played mafia.

To totally understand it you really have to play a game; I'd love to try and explain the basic concept and have you try it out with the game I'm about to host, if any of you are willing.

Are you familiar with anything regarding it?

I looked at a few pages when it was happening here and didn't really get it. LOL

Basically, (and this is to Vomps and Gazz as well)

The core concept is that there are handful of players who are randomly given civvie roles. These are the good guys. There are other players who are given mafia roles (baddies). The setup of the game includes a combination of day and night cycles. Days last 48 hours, and contain conversation amongst players in the thread trying to make sense of events. Each player gets one vote during a day period to cast against another player of their choice; the player with the most votes against them at the end of the day is lynched. When lynched, a player's role is revealed publically (good or bad) and they are dead (so they can no longer play/post/vote/etc.).

Nights last 24 hours, and are periods in which all roles can use their powers and baddies use their NK (night kill). Baddies generally choose one player to kill during the night, and that player will die when the night is over -- in contrast to days, players who are NKed do not have their roles revealed. So if Gazz was killed by mafia, no one would know his exact role, or even if he was good or bad, until the end of the game.

The civvies' win condition typically is to lynch all of the mafia so that only civvies remain. Baddies try to kill off all the civvies via lynch or NK in order to outnumber them.

The game can become more personalized and complex with certain specialized types of roles. For example, an example of one civvie role can be a civvie protector. During nights, this player can choose another player of his choice to protect from NKs that night. Then, if by chance Gazz was targeted by the mafia, but Vomps was a protector and chose to protect Gazz --- then Gazz would survive to continue the game.

Other special roles include gossip roles, info roles (can choose players and find out their alliance/role), block roles (can prevent another player from using their night power), etc.

It can be a lot to take in at once, but you really don't understand until you begin playing, trust me. It can be a TON of fun, especially when you're playing with other experienced/passionate mafia players and a game created by someone with mafia experience.

You definitely should. I'll be hosting so if you have ANY questions at all while we're playing you can always feel free to ask me and I'll try my best to help within the confines of my ability to. It's really a lot of fun, a fantastic strategy game.

And any questions on what I posted above?

One very important addendum: You cannot talk with players about the game at all outside of the confines of the thread, with one exception. BTSC (Behind the scenes contact) is a condition where two players can speak about the game outside the confines of the thread. For example, all mafia members on a particular mafia team have BTSC with each other. But most civvies do not have BTSC with each other (since that would defeat the point of the game). Does that make sense?

Andy, you can always sign up and then get replaced as well, whichever is easier. It's discouraged a bit -- since it's not good to have a bunch of players wanting to get replaced, but I would totally understand that.

Just a warning, it can be a bit to hard to replace someone later on in that you have to catch up on everything that occurred before you replaced that person. But it's still obviously not the same commitment as playing the entire time.

So there are pros and cons.

You mean the previous post one? That's irrelevant. I just was wondering if you wanted me to elaborate, but I did nonetheless.

To sign up, go to my thread and vote yes in the poll -- and also post in the thread introducing yourself (and saying you are going to play). Then when the game is ready to play, I will PM you and everyone else your randomized role, and the game will begin in the specified game thread.

I generally don't like movies whose title is a number.
