I know some people find it less atmospheric and dreamy and, well, not as good as SLS.LOL I enjoy it a bit, but I've only heard it twice or something like that, so I'm not in much of a position to judge.

I poked my head in that "PT Top 100" thread, gotta love the first post:

"I don't understand why there's no PT album in the top 100.  Obviously they're the greatest prog band around today..."

Confused

I like PT, but come on, it's true they are hardly the most progressive band around and hardly the most innovative either but the fanboys wont accept it. I just like the song writing on their last few albums really, but I still like a lot of others a fair bit more anyway.

I really like the band, have a lot of their albums.  But I consider them among the better modern rock bands, not prog deities.  I mean, to consider "In Absentia" at the vanguard of modern prog?  That's just not credible.

It means.

+10/+20 vs. Wilson fans

A DnD reference.

It means if it came down to smiting Porcupine Tree with my Axe of Godliness, it would inflict 10+ damage on Porcupine Tree and 20+ damage on Wilson fans.

You missed my point entirely. Degrees of culpability under the influence of substances is an entirely different subject than someone who is bipolar, which is what I brought up.

I don't think mental illnesses are near like physical illnesses; thus, I avoid the terminology or categorizations of words like "bipolar". It's only a way to group and restrict an individual's behavior in an attempt to try to explain it through knowledge based purely on mass generalizations. It still doesn't take away from the fundamental concept that YOU and you alone are responsible for your actions, no matter what "disease" you may have.

Although while on the subject of illegal substances, I just slipped some LSD into your drink. Are you culpable now?

That is an interesting point, actually, and quite a hard line to say for sure. I would say, depending on the method by which you slipped that substance into my drink, the person is still to a degree culpable (though not as much as someone who would directly choose to consume LSD)... if you're not paying attention and the other person slipped it in there pretty obviously, well, it's at least partially YOUR fault for not noticing and for taking the drink (along with the fault of the person who put it in there). The answer to this depends entirely on the circumstances, but in the end it still is bound by the previously stated concept. If you end up killing someone while under the influence (though I'm not sure what would prompt you to do that), the conditions under which you committed the action don't matter. You still killed someone.

Again, a complicated matter.

And is not weakness genetic? Now if this were Bioshock...

No, weakness is not genetic. It's a strand of controllable, conscious decisions or responses.

This post (well, the parts in blue anyhow) smells of bullsh*t. LOLEmbarrassed

Yeah, I think we can all agree, only Alex agrees with his blue post there.
No one else does.

Does that make me wrong though? Wink

And it is infuriating to me when someone calls them prog gods. I saw the SW/Akerfelt trivia video, SW has an uncomfortably detailed knowledge of prog. Perhaps we should be listening then when he says he's not a prog band.

But then my mate who likes Porcupine Tree/Wilson does prefer H-era Marillion and is obsessed by Opeth...

Oh well.

Maybe he's not in control of all his faculties, eh Alex? Wink  Perhaps he's buckling to peer pressure and likes those bands 'cause very few others don't.  What of it?  Well... not much really.

He likes them 'cause he likes them.  Even if he is a n00b.
