You're entitled to your opinion obviously, but Argus is widely considered a masterpiece.

I'm ordering this CD from Amazon right after I finish this min-review. Not going to waste one second.
A Tab in the Ocean - Obviously great. All-time great. Desolation Valley/Waves - Very good. Crying in the Dark - Sounds Deep Purpleish. Absolutely great! King of Twilight - What a way to end this all-time great album. |

Yes, but really very objective criterion hard to understand why. There are just so much greater albums came in the seventies that are not widely considered a masterpiece (specially outside UK & US). But thatīs way it is, this world isnīt fair. And naturally you donīt understand all the albums I said masterpiece why I say so.

Three Wednesdayīs albums: Comus: To Keep From Crying Have to say this is also quite good ordinary seventies album as Argus & Tab. But I prefer this for one reason: Bobbie Watsonīs great voice! Sheīs singing in this album most of the Comus albums. Really this album is so different than their other two albums, but I like this pop with slightly prog. And pieces like "Touch Down", "Children Of the Universe", "Perpetual Motion" and the title song makes shivers down my spine! Theyīre just so beautiful! I even like the silly starter "Down", but I really can understand how upset many fans of "First Utterance" had been when hearing that first time.
Dr. Feelgood: Sneakin Suspicion This is rhythm & blues mastepiece! And the reason is Wilko Johnsonīs very personal guitar playing! Also he really went forward in songwriting, for example title songs jumping but strict guitar is something not heard in previous Feelgood albums. And their versions of the old blues classics just has something new. Roots music really rare has today anything interesting to give, but seventies Feelgood really make reform in rhythm & blues! One interesting detail in this album is that cover picture is taken from the front of Finnish rock club when Feelgood had a gig there.
Steve Winwood / Jim Capaldi / Dave Mason / Chris Wood / Rick Grech / Kwaku Baah / Jim Gordon: Welcome To the Canteen Originally this wasnīt released under Traffic name for some reason, but although there are two songs from Masonīs solo and one from Spencer Davis Group, this really is Traffic live! And greatest live IMO! Maybe one reason is that I really like Dave Mason and this is only live where he is. Also I like Jim Capaldi on drums, nothing against Roger Hawkins though. Traffic pieces are sounding quite same as studio versions, but still very fresh! And last samba version of "Gimme Some Lovin" is just sooo great!

Yes, but really very objective criterion hard to understand why. There are just so much greater albums came in the seventies that are not widely considered a masterpiece (specially outside UK & US). That's a really good album! I already knew a couple of the songs(title track obviously and Honey, Honey). And I was very pleasantly surprised by most of the others.
Waterloo(Swedish version) - Understood very little, but jammin tune! Sitting in the Palmtree - Very tropical sounding, good. King Kong Song - Really cool jammin tune. Hasta Maņana - Wow, beautiful song. My Mama Said - Disco sounding tune, right on. Dance(While the Music Still Goes On) - Retro sounding, good but not great. Honey, Honey - Yeah, I know this one! Just a great pop song. Watch Out - Oh wow, rock. What About Livingstone? - What is this? Every song is really good! Gonna Sing You My Lovesong - Ok a little weaker song, but still good. Definitely not filler. Suzy-Hang-Around - fillerish Waterloo(English version) - Oh yeah, totally jamming tune!

Oh God, almost got pimples for this, just for the reason that Finnish Nostalgia-radio playes every f**kin day Waterloo, Ring Ring, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Dancing Queen & Mamma Mia!! But seriously, this is the only Abba album I have listened through and really argue that opinion Abba albums are not as great as their compilations. The biggest surprise to me was that another of manīs is singing Suzy Hang Around. But in the end, album wasnīt totally bad, but sure not great.

Great albums Thursday: Roy Harper: Lifemask Many thinks Stormcock is Harperīs best album, but to me itīs this at the moment! I believe reason is here are also as great acoustic pieces as in Stormcock, but also really great pieces with electric instruments additions. Also starting piece "Highway Blues" is the greatest song of his to me. Naturally one side long, really spiritual epic "The Lordīs Prayer" donīt decrease the value of this album. To me Harper is bigger than Dylan, Neil Young Or Leonard Cohen, but really he isnīt put in the same category. So he really can be said underrated! Many musicians respected him a lot, for example Ian Anderson & Jimmy Page, who played guitar in two pieces in this album.
Faust: Munic & Elsewhere This is another of two albums released after Faust went hiatus in the seventies. Have to say this is much better than "The Last LP", this includes totally unheard material! Specially both Munic pieces are really interesting, first one is really hypnotic and sounds really much different than their earlier material, so it seems they were going to new direction, but somehow they splitted.
Magma: Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh Oh, this sounded so great after I havenīt listened it a while! Listened this today first time from the original vinyl and it sounded different, better to me! Itīs possible there is some new mix in spotify. This sounded almost like it was older than seventies recording, for example drums are quite back. Really "Theusz Hamtaahk Trilogie is their magnum opus and this third part is so festive ending of it!
Nico: the End... Although any of Nicoīs albums after first are not very cheerful, this really is her darkest album. I believe this album become of the shock of one of her lover`s death (Jim Morrison). "You Forget To Answer" was told to become from that happening, when Nico tried to phone Morrison, but he didnīt answer and soon after that Nico heard heīs dead. Really I think Nico had achieved in this album those shocking feelings when you suddenly hear some of your close one died. But itīs not just Nico, producer John Cale, Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera also did great work! And Nicoīs version of the Doors "The End" is impressive! Itīs amazing how she sounds same time Morrison & herself. She really had to listen that Doors-piece many times before recording her vocals, also very atonal backings of Cale fits perfectly into Nicoīs vocals.

Towering album!! I have this CD! It's an import. It's the only Magma CD I have although I plan to also get their first two studio albums(which I also like a lot). But I know what you mean, a few months ago I listened to it on youtube just because I didn't feel like looking for the CD and it sounded totally different! Supposedly the same album but it honestly barely even sounded like MDK to me. But yeah the 'real' one is a masterpiece imo, period. In fact if I had to call any of my CDs a masterpiece(other than the classical ones) this would be it, even ahead of Argus.. It pains me to say it but yeah if I had to choose.

Fun album!
Mamma Mia - One of their most famous songs! Hey, Hey Helen - Rock sounding. This is actually really good. Tropical Loveland - Borderline filler, not bad though. SOS - Song everyone knows. One of their very best! Man in the Middle - Funky sound to this one. Bang-A-Boomerang - This one is really good! I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do - One of their absolute classics! Rock Me - Yeah! Really fun song. Intermezzo No. 1 - Wow, very good instrumental. I've Been Waiting for You - Very good flowing slow song. So Long - Another fun song. Wow, this is really good. |

To me MDK is from the totally different planet than Argus! I could imagine how MDK has sounded in the time it came for the most listeners, I believe itīs still very UFO stuff to many! Also, I think this very first studio version is the best, not ever been that much into those live versions with noisy bass-solo in the end. But really liked this quite early excerpt (Stella wasnīt yet in band that time), I think there is a little in the beginning from the first movement:

SOS is my fav ABBA piece. I have planned many years to listen all official Abba albums, but so far have listened only "Waterloo".

3 Friday`s albums: Faust: So Far This is their second album and I have to use that one word about this again! When their first album represented their unique style, in this album they expanded their style! First piece "Itīs a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl" reminds little Velvet Underground, next "On the Way To Abamäe" is really beautiful acoustic piece and next "No Harm" is very close to other prog of that time, for example King Crimson. But still mostly this really is unique Faust album with very personal, experimental music!
Trumans Water: Of Thick Tum In this first album of this band you can hear, how they were really adolescent (they have started a year before). Well, I think itīs part of fascination of this album. Also, John Peel liked this album so much that he played it whole through in his show and invented them into make famous Peel Sessions. Anyway here are great pieces like "Disindependence" & "Girlier Too".
Family: Bandstand Really love also this Family album, but comparing their less or more masterpiece 5 earlier albums, I think this is little bit tame. This sounds like they tried to make more commercial album (well it didnīt succeeded as well as previous, much greater album "Fearless"). What I wonder a little why they faded one of the greatest pieces, "Dark Eyes", so soon? If it was too long for the album, I would have left "Coronation" out instead of it! Because that fading I think the greatest piece is "Top Of the Hill".

I remember all of their albums being legitimately good except the last one. Very pleasing musically as I recall.
