I recomment Volapuk, which features Guigou Chenevier of Etron Fou Leloublan on drums.  Most of his projects are great but Volapuk are very good indeed.

You'll also enjoy NEO Museum but they're impossible to find.  They're like an Italian Henry Cow though, in many respects.

Also try La 1919, another Italian band whose third album Jouer. Spielen. To Play. features Chris Cutler.  It's very good.

But if you want easily (or relatively) available and you like Etron Fou Leloublan, then the following may appeal to you:

Hellebore
Look de Bouk
Tipoudek Limonade
Volapuk
Ferdinand Richard

There are others as well but the above are available on CD if you know where to look.

Seriously, those two are among the best albums in RIO/Avant Prog ever, they are dark and challenging but incredibly rewarding at the same time.

Ah yes, Blowie but it's still difficult to beat UZ's "Jack the Ripper". Wink

I love Present too though.  They actually stuck to chamber prog more than UZ and Art Zoyd did.

That reminds me, I need to get some Daniel Denis albums.

UZ's "Jack The Ripper" might be my favorite with them, other than "Dense" and "Presage". Present's "Promenade au Fond D'un Canal" and "Le Poison Qui Rend Fou" is definitely up to pair with those though!

Daniel Denis' first album is available at MS, BTW. It's very similar to UZ's 'Heatwave' album, nothing like the "old" UZ. Still very good though.

I'm pretty sure Wayside sells all the Daniel Denis albums.  I remember seeing them listed on the little fold-over slips that came with my UZ and Present albums I ordered from there.

Not sure of their availability though.

They're pretty rare from what I know, at least compared to other Cuneiform releases. I really want them myself!

Rarer than Cartoon's Music from Leftfield (also on Cuneiform)?

That's impossible to find.  Not even Steve Feigenbaum has a copy, I don't believe.  He was going to look for a vinyl copy for me but I'm not sure if he's found one or not.

those of you who want both of the wonderful Cartoon albums, they are available as a Cuneiform re-issue called "sortie", which I picked up last winter- excellent stuff.  did I read that someone was having a hard time finding it?  well if you live in the US, there are a few copies left here:

Wow - quite a little flurry in here this afternoon! Good to hear all the enthusiasm - I love to see folks turned onto the glee and wonder of obscure music...the best, imo, goes unheard and unappreciated by far too many!

I have "Sortie" on CD.

What I was mainly after, however, was the missing track from "Music from Left Field" which was too long to be included on "Sortie".

It means my own album addition on the archives is incomplete.  Therefore, if anyone knows the track details for that missing track, I'd be very pleased to hear from you. Wink

RCD 2075 - Elephant9: Dodovoodoo
 
"

Excellent new trio consisting of Ståle Storløkken (Supersilent, Humcrush) on keyboards, Nikolai Eilertsen (The National Bank, Lester) on bass and Torstein Lofthus (Shining) on drums. Storløkken mostly concentrating on organ and electric piano gives the album a late sixtees, early seventees flavour with traces of rock, jazz, prog and psychedelia. The rock solid rhythm section gives it all a contemporary edge and we get an extremely tight little unit with a high degree of great musicianship as well as pure joy in their playing. Already a firm live favourite on the Norwegian scene for a couple of years due to a handful of highly energetic and enthusiastically received concerts, they have transfered their live promise to the recording studio with ease. The album was recorded live to analogue tape in Grand Sport Studio, Oslo.

Downloaded his internet release on 'Luvsound'; 'tis one long experimental/sound-art type thing. Reminded me of an artist named Olivia Block who I think has release some pretty neat music within a similar area. I have her first album Pure Gaze. 'tis not earthing shattering stuff, but I find enjoyment out of what she does.

I am listening to the Factor Burzaco disc now, and I'm a bit disappointed. A lot of it is quite wondrous & avant, but it has this almost pop-y ["alternative"] flair that comes & goes which strongly diminishes the work as a whole pour moi...Overall very good still, but not at all the 'masterpiece' I had surmised..ah well...
