It doesn't really. Aside from the fact that it's mostly a 5-8 swing state race for the electoral college, if you vote red and your state goes blue, your vote counts as much as the idiots who voted for Harambe in 2016.

Does everyone else agree with this?

I don't think having a two party system is remotely democratic...
We do have more parties and I vote for them often, if others did the same that would end the "two party system". Its the American voters fault that we seem to have only two parties.

interesting POV...   I'm all for blaming the voters.. much of our problems begin and end with voters that are largely ingorant, apathetic, or misinformed yet even I wouldn't put that on them. I would retort that our system is set up and geared to facilitate a two party system and stacked against a 3rd party crashing.. umm.. the party.  And it is a good system John.. one that has served our country well for nearly 250 years.  However like any democracy.. it only functions as well as its voters allow it to function.

though as I posted and still do believe it intensely...  that is not to mean a 3rd party can't be important.. the point is..  in order to be feasible.. it has to replace one of the two. Which of course.. is exactly what I think is going to happen in the next decade and a half.

Every vote matters. Even if your favorite candidate will lose, you don't want them to lose by a large margin because that will look like a mandate.
Statistics do matter and you can bet political operatives read them thoroughly.

Re Mickey, I'm sure you know the US has had a three or four party system many times in the past. Its really up to the US voter to make a multi-party system happen.

It seems as though that countries with more than two party systems are still really only two parties when it comes down to it since in order to rule the different parties agree to caucus together to create a majority party in order to pass any laws.  It sometimes seems to make for strange bedfellows.  it does lead to more compromising of laws in order to make all parties happy.  There was once a time in our country when our two parties were willing to compromise in order to pass laws that made both parties happy or at least less angry, but those days seem to be long gone.

^ Actually they still compromise sometimes, but the media tends to ignore those issues and go for the more contentious stuff.

well, you can't have it both ways. if no party has the majority alone then some coalition is needed. but that is exactly the opposite of a two-party system

I really doubt it. People think that Drumpf talks to them as he uses the language of the common man. They think the Dems are some kind of elitist, sushi-loving, tofu-eating, Volvo-driving commie organization.

All pretty much true except the commie part.

I was much more impressed by her this time than ever in the past.  She's gone from an unconvincing schoolmarm to a compelling presenter of ideas.

Not political at all...but so glad to see you back, Mickey!  You and Rafe were the first to make me feel welcome here and I'm happy to see you are still on this little blue planet.

Beer  love ya brother. Heart Yeah. I must admit I am all in for her.

I might reply the same for Harris tonight... wow...

but not surprising...  I have sort of been predicting that Biden was dead man walking.. it was only a matter of time.  To her credit.. she starting hammering his coffin tonight.

told me alot about her I simply didn't know.. like well... what she is all about and cares about. To say nothing of her place on the ideological spectrum.  She obviously saw that it was her or Biden and made her play.

so yeah... quick hitters on tonight's debate

1) obviously the Biden beatdown...  I suspect his poll numbers plummet in the weeks to come.  Too old, too out of touch with where this party is now.

2)  note Bernie's closing statement...  all these candidates for the most part.  big talk..  but without fundemental change.. it is just jacking off in to the wind. Little will change.  That is what I think is driving the progressive wing of the party.. and why I do think the eventual nominee will not be centrist but a progressive.

3) first impressiions the mayor guy...  very possitive.. this obviously is not his time.. .but one to watch in the next decade on the national stage. Very impressessed with how he handled himself

Sorry about the misspelling, but you know who you are.  On the political spectrum, listening and learning some more and digesting after two nights.  Will sleep on it.

Biden got burned tonight. I hope he's not the nominee... He's everything I despise about Third Way politics.

do I?   Depends on the day for the most part. Sometimes it is sweet Mick (seems you were lucky to catch me on that day)..  then there is bad Mick..  the infamous Mick the Dick.

come on.. you are talking at the king of addled here.  If I can butcher it...  hell... after 14 years on this site. If I haven't offended it.. I've likely butchered it.

I do look forward to hearing what you think with these debates.. the candidates.. and of course the bigger picture moving forward.

Thanks! I appreciate it...  I do disappear for spells at times from the forum. Usually to other sites and other interests I have outside of music/politics.  Longest break in fact was for a couple years after burning out after the whole insane genre team dealio when we sort of built this site. Good times but stressful sh*t man... it was like a job.. lots of hours.. countless..but no with pay.. and little appreciation. The only compensation was kicking ass when some idiot was stupid enough to pull a knife on you not knowing I carry a gun and have no problem using it.
