I dont like how some symphonic prog bands get called neo-prog by people who don't listen to those bands. I hear a different between the two.

See I like Marillion's Brave but not much other neo-prog apart from Anubis which has struck me as something I really like. There's some bands I've found are just terrible and I'm not a big Pallas fan from what I've heard on youtube. Is Edison's Children kind of... out there? Is that the right word? Like, not totally confined to the neo-prog genre.

All 4 members of Marillion make an appearance on the Edison's Children album. It actually seems kind of spacey/psychedlic to me.

I liked Pendragon's Pure but I've not heard much else besides Marillion.

Everything Ive heard from bands that are considered neo-prog leave me cold. Marillion, IQ, etc. I like some of what Ive heard, but I'm not crazy about it. Yet I like TFK, SB, Transatlantic, etc. and some still call that neo-prog. It's symphonic prog, and much of their music is more varied and eclectic (I would dare say TFK cross the line between symphonic and eclectic a lot)

I honestly don't really know the difference between Neo Prog and Symphonic Prog. My understanding from talking to Ivan is that the difference has to do with the keyboards. Apparently, Symphonic Prog uses pianos, and organs, and moogs, and authentic keyboards, and Neo Prog uses more synths and modern sounding keyboards. I'm too ignorant to notice the difference.

I tried IQ and Introitus today.
IQ was bad, Introitus was decent.

Yes, your tastes are kind of a mystery to me. I begin thinking the we have a lot in common, and then you say stuff like that. Personally, I would think that you would be someone who would like the Marillions, and IQs and Pendragons, because you like the TFKs, SBs and Transatlantics.

Which IQ did you listen to?
Also, I think that you might want to try out Red Orchid. They have some similiarities to Rush. Their album is available for free on Bandcamp.

I tried Frequency, their apparent masterpiece. It sounded like watered-down Crossover.

I'd say neo prog is cheesier. You know, it's got those "emotional" melodies, some parts that sound too much like Yes/Genesis, etc.
