Hey Alex, Im quite excellent, but I couldn't sleep so I got up at 5:30 and I'm just waiting for other people to awaken. It's 8am now Sleepy. Editing some photos, getting ready to do two interviews next week - and all that - and all that.

Sounds good. Clap

Whom are you interviewing?

@Harry - why did it matter so much that your review be first? I understand the importance of having it first, or early anyways when it comes to new albums, but why did it have to be first?

I don't really know entirely to be honest.
I guess (and it's most likely) that it's just about wanting PA to have that kind of "on top of and up to date on prog" image of the site and I was tipped to review the album the day of it's release (as I obtained a legal promotional copy of the album not legally available to the general public a few weeks before hand).

Promos are sweet... I love 'em

You could still review the album now and give it an honest review

Great! Hug

Once I get around to reviewing the three studio albums I haven't yet, they'll all have 5 stars. Tongue

Why would someone get chosen to do a specific review anyway?

Well, basically, it's obvious a job like that wouldn't go to anyone that wasn't at least a Prog Reviewer at the minimum (no "regular" members basically) and I'm a Prog Metal Collab, and the problem was, Jody was absent too much at the time (and still is), Plankowner doesn't really do reviews, The T was away from PA too much, and so was Sleeper, so they picked me.
The problem is, The T and sleeper are the guys on the Prog Metal Team more passionate about "Prog Metal" and I'm more passionate about Tech/Extreme and Post/Experimental, but the band I was tipped to review, was Prog Metal.
And well, I'm just not that excited about that side of prog metal anymore, so I wouldn't have been able to give it more than 3 stars, because frankly I didn't see that album as being too special.

Ah, okay. That is interesting.

Have you guys ever thought of making sub-sets of the PMT (but still having one team)?

Well, that particular case was the only one were it really mattered if I liked the band or not (or more specifically, to what extent I liked it or not).

The thing is, you don't need everything on the team to vote yes to get a band to Cleared status (cleared being the stage at which it's then ready to have a bio done for it to get added to PA), so say we get a Post/Experimental band to evaluate, only Jody, Plankowner and I would have to listen to it if The T really didn't want to.

And of course, even when we are presented with a band that doesn't get along with our taste when evaluating, you have to leave behind how you feel about the band and just concentrate on evaluating it to see if it has  prog credentials or not, so even if I'm presented with say, a Power Prog metal band (power prog I'm not too keen on) I'll still listen to it and decide if it's prog or not and make my vote, so you can how we don't need subset of the PMT.
And plus well, the subsets wouldn't happen if we asked for it anyway (too complicated to explain perhaps).

Money is always good. I got money from all of my extended family, but my parents bought me the additional drums to my set.

It's awesome having acoustic and electronic drums available now. Big smile

Even promos need HONEST reviews, and bands need to learn to suck it up... seriously! Unless the review is just sl*gging them they should take the critique, shrug it off and move on.

My Unitopia review was from a promo and it was written a month and a half ago, of course it was only posted today because I didn't write their bio until yesterday... but you know what I mean

Yeah, that's true; it would prove to be complicated and unnecessary under that process.

I'll have to be introducing my band for addition here in the next couple days. Woo, that'll be fun. LOL

I agree entirely with this.

As a composer/musician, I prefer that people be 100% honest with reviews of any work, let alone my own.

I expect Torman Maxt reviews! Big smileLOL

I getcha man, but I felt I was really being put into a position of the review had to be very positive, or just no review at all, and of course, being the first time I was ever tipped to do a promo review, I just turned down the review, because obviously the band wouldn't use my review for their own promotional purposes if it wasn't positive enough to their liking anyway.

I must be more of a fanboy. I can't give any Rush album less than 3 stars unless it is the EP or a compilation.
