Im really excited about Testament, I think that might be the darkest Shub Niggurath album. I can't wait to hear it!

People talk about some of UZ being scary...but I think the end of Theusz Hamtaahk is pretty scary. I've gotten chills at times listening to it.
|
Yep, it's very tenebrific. It sounds like a concentration camp on Kobaia. Or an almost apocalyptic event like Hiroshima.

I should listen to Shub Niggurath more often.

Not sure if that's what they intended, but I found Repulsion (from Triskaidekaphobie) wasn't the dark ending track I thought it might be. It was kinda, I'm not sure, but it still worked well anyway, but I can't describe why, even though it wasn't as dark as I assumed it would be. Does anyone else feel the same way?

It's quite creepy and very atmospheric. Odd ending to the album, but effective on the overall Triskaidekaphobie mood.

I was on and off. It's hard to explain, but I managed to find this threshold where I could smoke, be addicted enough to smoke more, but not enough to get significant enough cravings to bother me if I stopped for several days or weeks. I found, at the level I smoked it actually did help combat my anxiety problems (mainly the reason why I have ever smoked anyway), but because I sat down and analyzed things and figured out how to get to that threshold (which makes the difference between getting truly addicted and being able to stop whenever you feel like it) where smoking wouldn't make my anxiety worse (which is the case for people that smoke whole packs a day, but not me whom only smoked 1-3 a day). If I got a cold virus, I could easily quit or if I knew I would be getting some exercise, I would just stop a few days before.

Have you heard the follow-up to Les Morts Vont Vite? It's darker still. I don't have Testament yet.

I like Repulsion, but it just suffers from having the follow the incredible brilliance of Promenade and Quatre-Vingt Douze.

Of course, and I think that one is the darker one. LMVV is still VERY dark though!

According to Wiktionary, RIO can be most tenebrific at times.

I never saw UZ or Shub etc as being literally scary, I tend to channel it into a sorta chilled out state of mind. It's weird, I kinda know intellectually that it's dark and threatening music, but emotionally I feel it as something relaxing. It's just like, when I put on death metal, I understand the music is violence and angry, it makes me feel better about myself, somewhat empowered and just makes me feel like rising to a challenge.
I would never listen to music that would make me literally worse, like pop music, which makes me feel stressed and angry listening to it.

Yeah. It's still a very enjoyable piece, and I like it very much!
Promenade is one of my favorite tracks ever though I love that 11/8 piano "riff"

I'm the same. Although some VdGG and Hammill tracks will upset me. That's due to the lyrics though. Oh and Wyatt's Sea Song does too, sometimes.

Is that all?
It's £5.25 over here for a 12 pack, I think.
That's $10 or so.
|
Wow, there's usually 20 cigs in our packs.
|
Actually, you're right.
It is 20 in a pack.
|
Still, very expensive. Then again I keep reading everything in Britain is insanely expensive - London has the third highest cost of living of any city in the world.
|
@James: Never heard of a 12 pack before. Indeed, the UK is expensive as heck. I would hate to live there, especially being a guitarist like myself. In Australia, we can at least get good quality Japanese made instruments for fair prices, but in the UK, literally everything is usually pretty expensive to buy, except for instruments made within the UK itself which are sometimes reasonable. The US and Canada have it good in that regard. Rock musicians can get instruments for great prices there.

Canadian instruments are cheap 'cause they're former Rush cast-offs.

I have it in my head even when Im not listening to the track. It's so simple, yet so addictive!
I also love that quiet and creepy 11/8 section around 4:45 to 6:25 with that disturbing scraping sound in the background!
