In New England we have more bi-polar weather than all you fools. This morning we had a violent windstorm, and just a few hours later it's warm, sunny, and calm. Tomorrow there might be rain in the morning. There have been days here we're it's snowing violently then it cuts out and is in the 40s-50s (F) then start snowing then rain a little then be clear for the rest of the day.

That sounds similar to the weather here, but I have no idea how extreme the changes are. Lake Michigan hates us, though, I think.

I don't know what to make of that since I noticed that the most southern parts of Canada are at the same latitude as mediteranean places such as Provence or Tuscany. Wacko

It's the fact that part of Canada lies in the arctic circle. The Appalachian and Rocky mountains stop pretty much any warm current of air and spit in southward, putting Canada in a sammich between cold and cold, making Canada a cold country.

The strange thing is that Barcelona and other Mediteranean places are at the same latitude (41st parallel) with New York, but you don't get subtropical weather in New York, and vice versa it rarely (and barely, when it happens) snows in these Mediteranean places. I've always wondered about this striking difference.

I'm no meteorological expert, but I believe it is the steam from the Gulf Stream that floats over Europe that makes it that humid tropical region. Plus the Pyrenees mountains on the Fr/Sp border traps a lot of precipitation and makes it more tropical. And Africa is right below you, and the northern bound winds contribute to the heat. NY has the Appalachians, but they are farther north than the city. That's the extent of my knowledge on that. Plus East/West Hemispheres has something to do with it I'm sure.

From what I know the Gulf Stream goes much higher to the North, making it the main reason why Norway is inhabitable. LOL

And Europe is nowhere near tropical. Most of it is temperate (though as it appears, possibly a warmer temperate climate than in the US, despite being a bit more to the North). While the Southern countries have a hot and humid air, there aren't many precipitations, and the land is more dry than green.

The proximity to the African Subsaharian climate might explain this. For example, Spain's coast to the Mediterranean is very warm and dry, while the coast to the Atlantic (at the same latitude) is cold and cloudy.

This might help. And true that about Europe not being tropical. I wasn't thinking LOL

I heard it largely depends on whether you're on the Oceanic side of the mountains or on the Western side, the one with warmer waters of the Tasmanian Sea. Is that true?

Not really. Everywhere in NZ is oceanic, except for a small area inland of the South Island which is basically continental (although still mild by international terms). Generally, the east coast of both islands are drier, sunnier and warmer than the west, because the central highlands form a rain shadow. Some parts of the east are nearly Mediterranean, while the far north is almost subtropical. The deep south can be damned cold, but basically everywhere else is temperate and mild.

That's intresting. Visually it suggests that the stream makes those Atlantic places warm, but on the contrary those costal areas in direct contact with the stream are the most windy and cold areas of temperate Europe. If I think of bathing on an English beach, my first reaction is a shiver of cold. LOL Most likely the impact the stream has is much more subtle, and not discernable that way.

More importantly, much of Southern Europe, the cornerstone of our civilization, would go underwater. Think of Venice! Cry LOL

If the Canadians can do it, so can we! Wink

Merka is too big, like 9000 climates...but the climate here in central PA.
f**king cold winters, cool spring and fall. Warm for like 3 months.

It tends to be cloudy like 75% of the time but almost never rains or snows.
Not sure how we are called "happy valley" place is depressing

Edit: Oh and nothing personal Alex, just you know....the world could use some catastrophic climate changes ya know?

That's Discordless, I added it recently because it's a free download. You don't have it already? I suggested them to PA a while ago.
