It makes me laugh when they have these great "singers" on the X Factor when this choir have people who could sing them into the ground without the slightest problem. Have a good weekend everyone.

Sadly, we didn't. We were leading until the last round and then were overtaken by a few teams, mainly on the "mini-marathon" rounds on US States nicknames and collective animal nouns. Far be it for me to suggest that some people may have cheated, I just find it suspicious that one team got 19 out of 20 on the US states round which they'd had all evening to answer.
How many people actually know the nicknames of all the American states? After "The Lone Star State" we were struggling. It's amazing what you can find out with a mobile and Google.
OK, I am suggesting they cheated.
Because I know they did.

Respect to you, Alan...
I get out and support the Kington Choral Soc (among others) when they perform at St Mary's Church... supporting local music groups of different styles, is a very worthwhile thing to do... |
Thanks Jared. I'm not sure that they strictly count as "local" but they are great. Further to my previous comment and all the talk about X factor, this choir had about 18 singers, about 6 of them did solo songs and every single one of them would blow any of the X Factor contestants out of the water.

My word, it's quiet in here recently - that means we're either all shattered after all the activity last week talking about old shops, or many of us Greys have decided hibernation is the better option at present.
Luckily, I live in the south of England - woe betide those who live 'oop-nooooorth' tonight - they're forecasting high winds & approx 8-10 inches of snow overnight in the north with the south just getting rain...
This probably means the north will get away with it & the south will get buried

It appears that my leg is not fractured.
This means that ....... a) I wasted a day at A&E b) I have apparently been a bit of a baby c) there is "nothing wrong" d) I am still in pain, but because of clause "c)" I have no recourse to be slow/mopey/unable to do things e)I am still able to consider a holiday soon (hooorah!) f) I should feel better sooner rather than later
Is it ok to still be p-eed off?

"Bl**dy southerners - half an inch of snow and thee's bl**dy chaos...."
...was a comment i oft heard when residing in the frozen wastes of the North East - driving through ten inches of virgin snow at 5 in the morning is a memory i will always cherish...

That's what really puts me off pub quizzes these days - I didn't waste all those precious years filling my head with irrelevant trivia just so some git who can't spell 'weird' properly can use his sodding mobile to find the answers. I'm not usually a bad loser but when things like that happen !

no consolation but most Americans wouldn't know more than a few state nicknames either

In that most well known of British all-terrain vehicles, the Austin Metro
I remember Cumbria from that trip we took a few years back Neil - spectacular scenery in Spring, but not somewhere you'd want to get lost in winter... I still remember you & Vicky explaining to me what snow-poles are, and what they're for

Trouble is with snow these days is a case of here today - gone today. Well it is in this neck of the woods. Didn't even get chance to build a snowperson before it started raining. Grrrr!

Cool... Snow in Texas (December 25, 2004)
nasa wrote:
Anywhere from two to six inches of snow accumulated on an otherwise tropical area. This was the first snow accumulation in Brownsville, Texas (the southernmost American city along the US-Mexico border) in 109 years. Just days after the snow fell, temperatures rose back into the 80s (Fahrenheit) and melted the surprise away. |

^^ I think our Lincoln might be a bit older...
heck, the Cathedral alone must have existed while your continent was still attached to Africa...
