To my knowledge, M@X is working on a new system of rewarding reviews and reviewers in PA as they are doing in MMA now. He is open for new prizes suggestions so please PM him with your suggestion and put in some reviews to be in the draw for the prizes.

Didn't we used to have one of those systems?

Great!

Just listening to some Aube on youtube now

I actually agree with the 1 star for some of that

My first review just posted - I hated it. Will listen to some more albums though as its the weirdest stuff ever heard.

You gonna buy every Aube album just to prove you heartily loathe the stuff?Wink
If it's the weirdest stuff you've ever heard - it must has some merit?

Why rate albums that you haven't heard in CD (or comparable) quality Ouch
I could give a big round of 1stars just for how bad those 128kbps youtubes sound.

I have been raving about this band since I downloaded it a month ago from Racket, and been wondering why Prog Archives hasn't done a review of it.

Well I understand why now as the "official review" comes in at about 5000 words. It is perhaps one of the most detailed reviews i've ever seen from an actual prog archives staff member.

If you didn't see this the other day from the "official Prog Archives reviewers", it is quite extra-ordinary...

(scroll down to read the review)
Let's make Prog a family again. Tired of Snobbery and trolling. We all have a right to love what and who we love so lets respect and appreciate all who care about the finest music in the world... prog

I know from the tunes I heard on the tube that i would not bother to actually  buy any Aube - but its enough to review them. I don't normally turn to the tube to review but i thought Aube would be worth checking out at least.

I have tried it, too. Absolutely boring. And I'm one who has rated 3 stars the first album of Phrozelight. I have stopped reviewing it after the third and stopped listening at all at the fourth...but Aube is even worse.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I am glad someone agrees. i dont think the reviews i read or wrote are unreasonable - But someone out there likes him and he keeps churning out massive loads of albums - How hard it is though to record tuning your radio transmitter for an hourLOL

I think your Aube reviews are rude and condescending. The same opinion could be put much nicer. The " junk noise" and "torture" parts were definitely uncalled for. If you don't understand what the attraction is doesn't mean nobody does. I like him.Ermm

I'm not sure I'm that comfortable with albums being reviewed off YouTube, or after a single listen, or without hearing every track, or by anyone review three more albums after they clearly didn't like the first (or two more after not liking the first two; or one more after not liking the first three)
What?

What's wrong with genuinely wanting to hear some new music without risking buying albums you wont like?

Besides at least I know why he was receiving such low ratings now. It is in our jurisdiction surely to try new artists without having to take risks - At least youtube provides that opportunity. Anyway that was a one off exercise. Moving on to better things now.

Having done the same (listening from youtube) but without writing a review I can confirm that youtube is enough. There can't be anything good hidden by a low-quality recording in that music. It's just a boring drone and even with the best possible listening devices I don't think it would change a lot. I can agree with Dean in general, but this specific case is different. Youtube is enough....

Yeah, let's leave it at that. You are right in this case. Anyway, I have better things to think about than reminisce over albums I hated. Time to listen to a classic!

You are free to disagree with me and I see nothing wrong in listening to samples of an album on YouTube before deciding buying and you are free to be as defensive as you like about it - However, I said: "I'm not sure I'm that comfortable with albums being reviewed off YouTube"  because a review is quite a lot more than you deciding whether to buy the album or not isn't it?
What?

Prog Reviewers and Collaborators should absolutely not review albums based solely on listening to them on YouTube. What kind of dog and pony show do you think we are running here?
What ever happened to listening to an album four or five times in full before even considering a review?

I'm fed up with this entitlement culture. Do it properly, it's not a numbers game!
