It was really good.  I think that there was 1 song that really didn't do much for me, but the rest was excellent.  It probably should be moved to Heavy Prog though.  Avant didn't really seem to fit it.

No no, it's avant-prog.

Just because something is heavy, doesn't mean it's suitable for heavy prog.

It's not fully avant-prog but it is avant-prog.  Didn't I write the biography?  I cannot remember.

And you need to listen to more avant-prog.  There's a lot of really listenable stuff.

And which do you prefer?

I know three versions so far.

1. album version
2. Retrospektiw I-II version
3. Trilogie Theusz Hamtaahk

I also have Archiw I but haven't played it yet.

So far... I'd take the intro from the Retrospektiw II version and tack it onto the album version.  I don't find the violin as good as I'd like it too on the live version either.

I think the Retrospektiw I-II version is my favorite, though they're all excellent IMO.

I love that version too... it's just the break in the middle and then Didier Lockwood's violin solo is a slight disappointment for me.  I prefer the brass section.

Mmmm Theusz Hamtaahk!

And how bloody amazing is E-Ré?  I wasn't completely happy with it the first few times but now I just want to listen to it all the time!

The intros to Part II and III are brilliant.

I love the bit where it sounds like the two girls are singing "take a shower". LOL

I don't know.  But I do know I got my first John Zorn today (even if it isn't an ideal starting point), I.A.O.  I'm listening now.

The local music store is closing down for good...he's been here for over 20 years, doesn't get enough business now thanks to the majority of people just downloading the hit singles and not caring about buying the actual thing.  Kind of sucks, it was the only place around here to get any sort of good music. Cry  Plus, he has some awesome vinyls which I didn't have enough money to buy, including a vinyl copy of The Grand Wazoo.

That indeed is not good.  It's happening more and more now.  I always try and buy albums on CD and/or vinyl if I can.  As much as I find Digital copies useful, they will never replace CDs for me.

Plus I love a physical product, liner notes and cover art.

Exactly.  Thankfully I found Wayside and Syn-Phonic and other sites before he closed, but if I hadn't I'd be screwed out of finding a lot of the stuff I want.

The problem is though, even someone like Greg Walker of Syn-Phonic or Doug Larsen could end up going bust if things continue on like they are.  Even Wayside... although both ReR and Wayside/Cuneiform have the benefit of being a label too.

Yeah, but since all of them focus on a niche market to begin with, a market which includes mostly people who are still interested in buying the physical product over a download, I feel like they're a lot safer than most of the independent stores.

Not a bad choice. Highly conceptually conceived, without feeling that (except the obvious modern writing) in the music.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it so far.  I feel like the majority of this album doesn't sound like the majority of his output though. LOL
