I'd go for the debut. Like Gecko I find them a bit boring - I think if their debut had been 40 - 45 minutes long it would have been vastly improved; what could have made a strong vinyl album is stretched rather thin. There are some good moments though, and they have a decent chamber rock sound.

A superb band and a fine recommendation! Also try Guigou Chenevier's Runeurs de la Ville, which is basically an expended version of Volapuk plus guest slots from amateur musicians.

And thanks to Cleo for steering me towards Volapuk and Martin for doing likewise with Guigou Chenevier's album!

I mentioned here previously the resource site Avant-Music News:

A nice resource about Avant on its various forms.

To pick something from it, here's an interesting article they linked to.

Phlox is an Estonian band that has released this year the album Rebimine+voltimine.
It's a high energy, thrilling ride through jazz-rock with a smear of Zeuhl characteristics all over it and some avant-garde parts decorating it. Recommended.

Listen in the Link above and here:

I have suggested them to the JRF team so they might end up here in PA.

Assaf,
I am just listening to 'Phlox' interesting band , Miles Davis' Bitches Brew period with  Free Jazz elements so far....fits into JR/F
BTW there is  a bio on their site, do we have estonian members?

Phlox

Algkoosseisus bassi mänginud botaanikatudengilt Priit Holtsmannilt ladinakeelse lillenime saanud jazzrockbänd Phlox andis debüütkontserdi 2000. aasta kevadel "Peda Folgil", sellele järgnes esinemine MKDK korraldataval festivalil "Pilvepillerkaar". Aastal 2000 ilmus samizdatina ka plaat "Fusion", mis nimest hoolimata sisaldas pigem varase Santana mõjutustega kitarrirokki. Sellele järgnesid muudatused koosseisus ja hulk esinemisi Tallinnas ja mujal peamiselt koos Beggars Farmiga (BF). Pillide lisandumisega toimusid muudatused ka stiilis, helikeelelt võiks muusikalisi mõjutusi aimata sellistelt fusion/jazzrocki artistidelt nagu Soft Machine, Gong, Weather Report, seda kõike siiski tugevalt omanäolises, vabas tõlgenduses. Phlox segab huvitavalt akustilisi (flööt, saksofon, kongad) ning klassikalisi rockinstrumente (elektriorel, -kitarr, trummid) ning eelistab liikuda järjest enam improvisatsioonilisel suunal. Viimaste aastate Phlox on leidnud oma helikeele, särades täisjõus eelkõige kontsertesinemistel. Kevadel on kavas üllitada uue koosseisuga Phloxi esimene album.

Well, if they're cleared for addition, the band will send me a bio in English and all other info necessary.

I'll try and give you some more material to listen to.

Las Orejas Y La Lengua - this is a band I heard good things about for a while but never got around to listening to them.

I finally bought it this week from Wayside and so far it sounds like we should add it to our database here. Some sort of jazzy rock with some "avantish" takes to it, quite enjoyable and entertaining, rather uplifting in spirit and well played.

Thanx Chris,
it was fun to do the editing BTW I just uploaded a second version with a higher resolution on YouTube , that must have also a 16/9 format , but I don't know how it will come out finally. When it pops up I'll post the new link.

Art Zoyd are similar to Univers Zero, so I thought you'd like them as well.

Try some Alamaailman Vasarat, Taal (not avant-prog per sé, but almost) and Afenginn, is you're after a bit more melody.

Personally, I find UZ, AZ, HC and some other stuff melodic. LOLWink

Trey and Pat are BEASTS, so I think I'll check KTU and/or TU out.

BTW, did anybody else notice the word "Center" misspelled in the thread title?

Of interest to our friends here are the additions of Curlew (discography still not complete, I know), Bise De Buse*, Prat, Jean-Paul and Laurent Thibault* (which Hugues added under Zeuhl, which I disagree with, as it's much more symphonic rock, but it's Zeuhl-related...)
A coming addition, long over-due is Upsilon Acrux.
Also, I am not sure if everyone noticed but Wakhévitch, Igor is here as well.

EDIT - Upsilon Acrux* added.
Next in line are DAAU and Förträngt Hushållsarbete

^^^ Nice additions! I was waiting for Upsilon Acrux's addition for a while now. I couldn't get the Jean-Paul Prat album you sent me though. I'm having trouble with Sendspace.
