Truly frightening. And makes talking to you rather pointless. |

I'm sure about one thing. I'm not sure.
Are you (all) sure?

I've read a few pages of this and you keep making sweeping claims like this and I really don't know what you mean. Most employees are underpaid - by what standards? How many people is most? At what point would you consider them paid enough? farting around on the internet, chatting with friends, taking smoke breaks is their due - perhaps it's the opposite - because they do these things, they are paid what they are? Your biases are worn incredibly on your sleeve, it's as if you assume that money comes out of nowhere and businesses are constantly loaded with it and hog it all for themselves, meanwhile everyone who accepts a job is a golden statue of moral decency who deserves a comfortable and stress-free life. This hardly reflects the reality of the world or the risk/reward mindset that leads people to start a business in the first place. Running a business is hard, hard work, very stressful, and there is no guarantee you'll ever get paid at all. Taking a job, especially at a well established company like McDonalds, is almost no risk at all. If the businessperson happens to succeed, shouldn't they be rewarded for the risk they took?

Why? Is FDR sacred? Is he holy that no man dareth to talk ill about him? I'm sure Pat's views on Lincoln will be received with even more joy...

"treat me as an IC?" I was glad to be an IC. You say that like it's a nasty thing. If I hire an IC, I am his supervisor because I am paying him. I have to make sure his work is satisfactory. And you don't know most employees, so you can't say that they are underpaid; furthermore, you are insinuating that they are too stupid to negotiate a better salary or too unskilled to find a better salary elsewhere. I find this rather insulting. |

My dreamed of society I would put equivalent to a style of Scandinavian socialism. And those countries have the highest standard of living. No one is starving there, unless they really choose to. And as for why I don't just move there (I'll preempt the question), it's because they don't want my American a** there. They're quite happy without droves of Americans moving there, so I guess I just have to fight for what I want right here. |

The Doctor, I am pretty sure you have no idea what you are talking about with regard to tax law.
If you are unwilling to actually perform the work at the given salary you should not have accepted the job.

No I am insinuating that they have no power to negotiate a better salary. |

On a more serious note. Having tried to observe the logic of this argument from afar. I can wholeheartedly conclude that this argument has neither merit or a clear logic. Enjoy your discussion, I am going to look at a tree.

I studied law and in particular tax law. So again, your style of freedom is "accept whatever is on offer or starve". That is the choice for most people. |

They absolutely do. There are even articles on how to do it. What you want is for workers to be able to force an employer to pay them more. That shouldn't happen because you would dare vilify an employer for firing a lazy worker who was just "taking his due." |

Well what you are saying seems wrong from what I know, but I am not an expert so okay. I would say that it is a matter of personal integrity to not feel entitled to not do work on the clock.
They also have quite a lot of oil to fund it. |

Well, FDR is one of my idols, yes, but that's not why. It was his "confused, petty, ignorant man" with nothing to back that up. Not going to bother with people who make that kind of statement without back up. In fact, backup would be better without the name-calling. |

Okay, The Doctor. Since you believe that a job and a living wage are every American's right, and if someone doesn't offer you one, you are being oppressed, then I demand that you give me a job and pay me a living wage! If you fail to do so, you are fascist and oppressor according to your own standards. I should add that I am lazy and have no skills of any value, but that doesn't matter because that job is my right!
I will be eagerly awaiting your job offer. |

Yeah, well being so close to oil production helps, and it's also easier for them to have hydropower and other renewable energy because of their geography as I recall.
You surely have slain that strawman.

Not in the least. I'm not one of the wealthy aristocracy. I have neither the job nor the funds to pay you with. I'm another one of the victims of this society, not one of the ruling class. Go get a job from them. |
