Yeah well he'd had a heart attack.

I listened to A Spark..... just the other day, I find I gets better with each spin. I love the humourous and witty lyrics, and my favourite track is Cleaning The Attic. Almost has a Canterbury vibe.
And the all-star line-up never fails to deliver the goods.
Here's a bit of trivia - drummer Morgan Agren has played alongside of Meshuggah's Fredrik Thordendal !! There's a clip of them on the net - they are both maniacs - just too good on their instruments. They obviously live, breathe, eat, sleep and dream music. Reingold too, one of the best modern bassists around.

That's fantastic.  Thanks for your sparkling critique and endless posts about how great you think he is only to turn on one album you think is poor.  Anything else?  Maybe Andy could swing by your place and give you a foot rub.

I guess Geekfreak is like I am with Ozric Tentacles. No harm in voicing an opinion. Still love the respective bands, whatever they do, but every so-often, they're gonna do something that isn't to your taste. That just proves that they are trying to approach their work a bit differently. A good thing.

Well, I quite like the last album, though I don't think it's their best and would rank it in the bottom half of albums.  Keep in mind that this was a sort of farewell to the original mandate of the band to write 70's style progressive rock only.  The next album they are breaking the template, according to Andy, and trying different things.  However, he said not to worry as there will still be long tracks, odd time signatures, and blazing Hammond solos.

I'd recommend Tillison's latest solo album as well, as it has a variety of styles on it and some of the best music I've yet heard on his solo albums.

The heart attack was actually after the release of A Spark In The Aether.

^ I don't care--  this is a Tangent appreciation thread, not a Tangent Critical Analysis one.  Dude almost dies and we're talking about his work like it's the new issue of Batman.

The reason why I avoid most appreciation threads here. No problem with saying you're disappointed with something but saying it over and over again for years is another thing.

Their last album is a journey in so many ways. To me it represents a culmination of The Tangent’s life and works.

Hey, don't get upset with me, I happen to like the album very much.  I just was pointing out that the heart attack followed the release of the album, so wasn't really a factor in why someone might feel it's not as good as other albums of theirs (something, again, I don't agree with at all).
