Here's a severely cropped (because it kept vomiting file size too large at me) iPhone picture from where me and my parents and cousins sit for the Indy 500. They've been going to see the 500 since 1958! It was one hell of a race, some maniacal driving out there, Juan certainly earned his win. It was a shame to see tony crash and Conor didn't even get to start the race.

As for Detroit I was hoping Marco would pull off a win, it's been too long since he has been in the winners circle. Not really a Munoz fan either. Indy cars used to run in the rain all the time but it seems like they are hesitant too run them in anything more than a light drizzle now. I can understand ending the race for lightning or waiting for it to stop lightning like last year at barber, but I've always loved watching races where it rains the whole time.

Nice!!

And indeed, but thankfully while we have a wet start it seems to be drying and no rain (or little at tops) due to come.
I was thinking about the NOLA Grand Prix where in a light rain the drivers botched like 7 straight re starts, including one or two that couldn't even get back to green, so I was thinking the field is not used to/good at wet running. That said this was a clean start.

I like Munoz, though his race ended with an engine failure, and while I like Marco I had to accept he may not really have "it" at least enough to be top tier, same with Rahal. American open wheel hopes may lie with Josef Newgarden, running 3rd as of right now.

Wow, exciting stuff! After JPM re took the lead early he was cruising easily, but the rain/pit stops really jumbled the field up, let some interesting strategies come out. Crazy how we heard nothing of Bourdais and Sato but they hauled themselves to the front. Glad to see Sato's aggressiveness has not left him, one helluva jump he got to nab 2nd.

Lot of big names taken out by crashes, or crashed themselves, very unfortunate.
Great race for Rahal, Marco, Conor Daly and Tristan Vautier all for grabbing top 10s!
Montoya finishes 10th as he was running out of fuel but should retain the title lead since Power, Helio and Dixon all got wrecked.

Congrats to Bourdais who made the pass on Montoya, which ended up getting him to the front, and built a huge lead to keep Sato off.

Good race today in Detroit.  Certainly a lot better than Dover was on the Cup side.

Finally seen the two Detroit races. That first one was a mess but great job by Munoz and Andretti to make it a one-two for the Andretti team. Dixon got lucky finishing fifth, putting wets on 10 laps before the rain came should have ruined his tyres, I can't believe so many others copied him and screwed up as well. Red flagging the race for lightning is weird though, I've seen so many other races that have paid lightning no attention at all.

Can't believe Montoya lost the second race as he dominated it so much, great drive from Bourdais though it looks like he forgot how to do doughnuts! I think Indycar needs to introduce the Virtual Safety Car system from F1 and the WEC, far too many yellows just for small bits of debris.

We'll get to see how the oval aero kits work this weekend at Texas for IndyCar, although I'm not holding out much hope.  I remember the Texas races as always being exciting and close, and since the DW12s, it's been fairly terrible.

And for those of us in the States, it'll be (randomly) on CNBC.

2012 was excellent but the last couple of years have all been about tyre ware. Let's hope the aero kit's change that.

Canada this weekend for F1, always a good race there.

^ It's true. Would probably be my 3rd favorite track on the circuit.

LOL

It is pretty insane to think of a race being on CNBC, but hey...they have less to cheerlead for now that the housing bubble has popped and most people are too poor to throw everything they own into investments!

Excited for Canada for sure, always a great race and an awesome track.
Yeah, Texas used to be nuts...maybe a little too much so, we all remember the Kenny Brack crash. I'm surprised they still go there, I know many of the big ovals have been removed due to danger.

Surprise, surprise, Hamilton's on poll, Rosberg didn't really look like matching him. Massa and Vettel will be fun to watch coming through from the back tomorrow and good to see the Lotus pair right up there in 5th and 6th.

I was very surprised to hear the commentators mention Verstappen had a 15 place penalty, last I heard it was 5 placepenalty for his crash with Grosjean, but his had to change his engine and is onto the 5th unit for the year already. Since we're not even halfway through the season yet I can see him getting many more as well unfortunately.

This Texas Indycar race so far is insane!  Reminds me of the IRL days, especially on the restarts.

EDIT: Never mind.  The second half to that race was pretty bad.  Only 5 cars finished on the lead lap and Dixon won by almost 8 seconds.  Ugh.

^ Totally forgot about it. Embarrassed I like the ovals, but at least it doesn't sound like I missed too much.

I missed it as well. I always liked Texas under the lights.

I do kind of wish indycars would try racing at smaller bullring oval, like they did in the 80's at the Sanair Molson track, though I imagine it could go pretty badly.

Also on another note, how about a street race on the streets of Boston for next season. It's planned to be the final race for 2016 as well.

Missed the very start of the Canadian GP, first 10 laps, but thankfully this a track where there's plenty of excitement.
Appears Vettel is hauling himself through the field, always fun lol

Cool to see the Lotus performance and not cool to see Button failed to qualify again, so much for the McLaren progressLOL

Typical race at top, even with Lewis needing to watch fuel and Nico needing to watch brakes.
Great drive for Bottas, though Kimi's spin is what cost him third.

Truly superb drives for Vettel and Massa to drive through the field and grab 5th and 6th.

Huge finish for Maldonado in 7th and Grosjean in 10th though I'm not sure his gap, he has that 5 second penalty and may drop. I think he may hold onto it though.

Grosjean keeps 10th, he was 15 seconds clear of Perez.

Great race from Hulk as well to get 8th, even with the spin whilst avoiding Vettel. Now he's off to Le Mans for next week.

pretty good race for finalnd and great for vettel and massa. too bad about the spin, i hope it was kimi's fault and not the team's.

also, as a conspiracy theorist i'm still wondering how mercedes has managed to stay so superior for over a year now without any other team copying them. Exclamation
