I think that smooth jazz is the worst genre in the world, personally, and that Kenny G is the most worthless "musician" ever to walk the face of the earth.  Read this interview with Pat Metheny about him: http://www.jazzoasis.com/methenyonkennyg.htm

Thumbs Up

I also like free jazz

Its all pretty good

You like stuff like Kenny G? Dead

is that smooth jazz?
I thought that "smooth" was like regular jazz? opposed to more free/avant stuff

I figured Kenny G was pop?

No, Kenny G's type of stuff is "smooth jazz".  I'm guessing what you consider regular jazz is stuff like Miles Davis' pre-fusion stuff (cool jazz, etc) or earlier.

Yeah
I feel ashamed now Cry

I introduced a guy to Magma while playing Pirates Vikings and Knights a few days ago

He said it's interesting

Another guy in the server, who said he's a prog fan because he likes Rush, said it's horrible

But when Kenny G decided that it was appropriate for him to defile the music of the man who is probably the greatest jazz musician that has ever lived by spewing his lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, f**ked up playing all over one of the great Louis's tracks (even one of his lesser ones), he did something that I would not have imagined possible. He, in one move, through his unbelievably pretentious and calloused musical decision to embark on this most cynical of musical paths, sh*t all over the graves of all the musicians past and present who have risked their lives by going out there on the road for years and years developing their own music inspired by the standards of grace that Louis Armstrong brought to every single note he played over an amazing lifetime as a musician. By disrespecting Louis, his legacy and by default, everyone who has ever tried to do something positive with improvised music and what it can be, Kenny G has created a new low point in modern culture - something that we all should be totally embarrassed about - and afraid of. We ignore this, "let it slide", at our own peril.

That was an awesome read, thanks for that. I mean, I f*cking hate Kenny G too, but now I've got even more reasons too.

*walk out to get every album Pat Metheny ever recorded*

I like some jazz fusion, but not so much straight up jazz.  Although I certainly appreciate it; it's one of the few authentic, American art forms.

Yeah, that paragraph rocked.  This totally improved my already high opinion of Pat Metheny and totally lowered my already horribly low opinion of Kenny G.

Angry

All right, I've been over this before, I'm sure, but (except for Matt who'd have to date his cousins or something if he wanted to meet someone in his own town) when you decide to fall for a gall, try not to find one who lives 5000km away from you. Okay? It just f*cking sucks.

I will certainly try. 5km would be nicer.

Luckily any girl I'd fall for right now will live near me until at least next May, so I don't have to worry yet.
