Well that will be some small compensation - maybe somebody could hold up a little 'Hell Syzygy' placard; I'll be there in spirit...

Just found out there's a good chance I'll go to France in September 2012, I'll be at the RIO Festival if all goes well.

Just listened to this Mexican band called Cabezas De Cera today and their debut album. They're listed under Eclectic here but there's enough Avant in this album to please fans of this style.Really chunky bass with horns, violin and more.A pleasure to listen to.

I've heard some Cabezas before and they are an interesting grouP.

In unrelated news, looks like there is a new Finnegans Wake album out, CD-R this time, nice and cheap on wayside.

Brilliant band; they're creative and passionate, they seem to always look for new ways to express themselves musically.
Additionally, I read very favourable reviews about their NearFest perforrmance (and they are also featured in the Romatic Warrior documentary).

Always a pleasure to read your opinions Assaf. Man i have to sit down and watch that Romantic Warrior documentary,i'm so not a DVD person.
I have "Blue" from Finnegans Wake only and it's pretty cool to hear Guy Segers and Reginald Trigaux both guest on one track. Listening to "Fear Draws Misfortune" right now from Cheer Accident.Again it's the only one i have from this band but like "Blue" it's really impressive.

I got it a couple of weeks ago, it's ok, better than the last one but still not up there with Blue or 4th which I consider there best. It has a more straight ahead classical feel.

A wonderful band! Their 3rd album is probably the most 'out' but my favorite is that debut. A prettty unique sound they have and can't wait for more material by them. (And if you like the first you should like the rest)

Thanks Phil for the feedback. I was listening to a band called CAZUELA DE CONDOR the other day which reminded me of them except no violin on this one. They are listed under Rio/Avant and i would have sworn by listening to them that they were from Mexico. They just have that sound you know.Anyway they're from Chile and use lots of sax and keyboards.Flute too and a killer rhythm section.

Ooo nice. Haven't heard of them, I'll definitiely investigare further. Sounds like a good instrumental line up and I do love that mexican/south american/spanish RIO/Avant sound.

Udi is the man ! Can't go wrong in following his recommendations. Another Mexican band i really enjoy is DECIBAL,especially their 1978 debut which is so interesting i don't think i'd ever tire of it.

Goddamn, I just listened to Celesta by UZ for the first time and was appalled to discover that the intro sounds eerily similar to a song I was planning (I play clarinet). Back to the drawing board, I guess!
Say, does anyone know if they were influenced by Stravinsky for that intro? That was my immediate thought.

(I felt like saying this somewhere, and here seemed as good a place as any.)

Np! Just listened to it again a week or so again...really can't see it falling out of my top 10 of the year.

And absolutely agreed on Udi's work. All fantastic sounding stuff. Exactly how I want my modern music to sound. The Calomito is a great example. Absolutely crisp and clear.
