To continue the addition update, here's another band added, that has also gave their kind permission to use their bio (and soon they'll send me an updated bio to replace that one).
I'll be out of town until Sunday, but when I get back I hope to add Bablicon and perhapse Curlew (and for those of you who like metal, there'll also be additions in that genre) and James will add Afenginn (pretty cool band!).
I also mean to add Speed Limit, however since I don't seem to find too much info on them, this addition is on hold, so if anyone has info and would like to contribute (and get proper credit of course), you're welcome to send me a PM.

Don't hold your breath on me adding Afenginn this week, but I'll try.
They are a very cool band though; I have both of their releases. You can get them both from CD Baby, by the way, definitely worth the purchase. This week I bought some Zeuhl/RIO: Happy Family - Happy Family Amygdala - Amygdala Tipographica - God Says I Can't Dance Zamla Mammaz Manna - Familjesprickor They arrived this morning, but I've yet to give them a listen. I had Amygdala as a download, but I don't think I listened to it. I will get Tossco at some point too. I'm also waiting for CD replacements of my Digital copies of: OOIOO - Feather Float OOIOO - Kila Kila Kila OOIOO - Taiga |

btw:
I just sent some folks some samples of Ur Kaos' 2nd lp A Terrible Beauty is Born. Give a listen, I think they definately need to be on our list.
Here's a review from Gnosis [where I'm a grader]:
"With their subtly nuanced modulations of unresolved tension and atmosphere of sooty desolation, Sweden's Ur Kaos are one of the precious few bands vibrating at an emotional frequency in tune with the resigned doom of This Heat's Deceit. Unlike the visceral immediacy Charles Hayward's grave intonings lent those late 70s mavens of desperation however, Ur Kaos' lyrical intentions can only be guessed at via the bleak thrust of their two previous English-language outings, since the foreign language vocals at hand render this aspect of the proceedings impenetrable to the non-Swedish speaking among us. There's nothing impenetrable about the manner in which they're sung, however: achy, yearning and riddled with angst. The substance of the sonics said vocals surround are initially less immediate, as Ur Kaos for the most part traffic in a sullen, insular and occasionally scabrous plod that's quietly bruising and wholly unobvious.
At 14 years on from their debut and 11 since their last release, this shadowy unit's M.O. has remained remarkably consistent: set the stage with taut, brooding bass progressions that thrum and cycle in tandem with the alternately trotting or galloping rhythmic figures, swaddle them in cresting and receding tides of watery Fender Rhodes, droning violins and analog synth atmospherics, salt with a smattering of hammered dulcimer, clavinet, piano and the occasional fiery electric guitar rise-up and set on simmer until it reaches a weighty slow burn. Ur Kaos' musical syntax takes some effort to emotionally locate, but once it comes clear, it's even harder to shake." -Eric Lumbleau
Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestion.
Why should he be here, and can you post any links to samples of his music?

Not sure, had a listen to sample tracks on their myspace page. Really not my thing, American 'quirk' doesn't really sit so comfortably with me, so I'm always going to be bias on this type of band. I guess see what the other guys say, they should be able to provide a more objective view on the matter. Edited by Black Velvet - July 27 2007 at 17:58 |

First listen - potential to be added... not that quirky, but then again, I would not add bands/musicians solely because they are quirky. Could very well fit as avant-rock (some punk influences in there as well), though it's particularly my think and the lyrics about the Internet... what's up with that?
On another note -
I'd like to point out to our friends here to this: Koenji Hyakkei to open NEARfest X

Why do I have to live in the UK?
Assaf, do you know the work of Gilad Atzmon? I've heard his "Artie Fishel and the Promised Band" album and it's got some very nice Klezmer on it. It's also quirky and full of idiosyncratic weirdness. I can send you some samples at some point in the near future, if you've not heard it. Edited by Geck0 - July 27 2007 at 09:59 |

I just checked out Afenginn and really liked their stuff, so I just purchased their album
Retrograd.
I also bought an album by the Degenerate Art Ensemble:
which after listening to their samples, am quite enthusiastic about receiving.

You won't be disapponted, SolariS. Retrograd is a great album. Akrobakkus is just as great too, especially the "hidden" track tagged on the end of the last track, it's not what you expect!

Or, set up an account with CDBaby, they're quick and easy. I got my CDs extremely quickly, plus I got e-mail confirmation. Now that's a good deal!
I hope you enjoy it. |

I was wondering where you'd got to!
Canada looks wonderful - are you meeting up with any PA members over there, or is it a proper holiday?
